Senet to Demonstrate IoT Network Using Semtech LoRa™ Technology at CES

Las Vegas, Nev., Jan. 06, 2015 — Semtech Corp. (Nasdaq: SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, today announced its LoRa™ long distance radio transceiver technology has been selected by Senet Inc., an Internet of things (IoT) network-as-a-service provider based in Hudson, N.H., for a new long range, low power IoT heating-fuel sensor network.

At the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Senet will demonstrate its new EnerTracSE wireless heating-fuel monitoring system, that was developed using a compact, low power, bidirectional LoRa radio module from Microchip using Semtech SX1276 915 MHz ISM band LoRa transceiver. The module is integrated into an EnerTracSE tank sensor and features the LoRaMAC software stack for long-range communication to Senet’s network gateway, enabled by IBM’s long range signaling & control (LRSC) system software and server.

The IoT platform demonstration will be featured at CES 2015 at Microchip’s booth: MP25656, South Hall 2 for the duration of the event.

The LoRaMAC software is gaining wide support as a de facto standard for the low power wide area network (LPWAN) segment of the IoT market.  This ecosystem cooperation means that Senet’s network can be designed to be compatible with other LoRaMAC-powered networks to accommodate interoperability of a wide range of IoT vertical solutions within the LoRa partner ecosystem.

The Senet network is a fully enabled two-way architecture, designed to provide data communication to sensors and controllers over long distance at low costs. Senet’s experience in bringing wireless connectivity to heating fuel automation, advanced network management tools and years of IoT/M2M experience creates a complete end-to-end solution.

LoRa™ technology is designed for industrial control, security/automation, smart metering and sensor network applications.  The additional wireless range provided by LoRa eliminates the need for repeaters in these applications, significantly simplifying the system design and lowering the total cost of deployment.

The Senet network achieves the same radio range as cellular networks at 1/100th of the power consumption for longer sensor battery life. Range in excess of ten miles has been achieved in rural areas and more than three miles in a dense urban environment, while operating in compliance with United States regulatory limits.

“Over half a trillion dollars in IoT revenue was left on the table last year because the networks were not in place to service the applications.  Low power wide area networks, like the Senet EnerTrac network, will for sure help in narrowing that gap,” said George Dannecker, president and CEO of Senet. “By delivering back-end data connectivity over a wide area at a price that makes economic sense to our customers, Semtech and Senet are enabling the realization of IoT.”

About Senet

Senet, Inc. is a leader in the rapidly emerging Internet of Things (IoT) / Machine-to-Machine (M2M) marketplace and the first public Network as a Service (NaaS) provider in the US for a low cost / long range ISM network. Through its established countrywide network, Senet enables monitoring services that help America’s most efficient and environmentally-conscious businesses improve profits by managing and measuring the status of widely distributed assets — businesses such as residential fuel oil and propane tank automation, water and gas metering, commercial lubrications distribution, solar irradiance, and many more.
