Artesyn Embedded Technologies Joins Wind River Titanium Cloud to Accelerate Development of Network Function Virtualization Solutions

Tempe, Ariz. [13 October, 2014] —Artesyn Embedded Technologies today announced it has joined the Wind River Titanium Cloudecosystem, a program dedicated to accelerating the development of solutions for network functions virtualization (NFV). By pre-integrating and validating hardware and software products with Wind River Titanium Server, the Titanium Cloud members shorten time-to-market for service providers and telecom equipment manufacturers (TEMs) deploying infrastructure based on NFV. Wind River Titanium Server is an application-ready software platform that enables NFV infrastructure to achieve the carrier grade reliability required for telecom networks. Artesyn joins industry leaders in NFV in the Titanium Cloud program including Brocade, GENBAND, HP, Metaswitch Networks, Nakina Systems and Overture.

Artesyn’s standards-based computing platforms for communications infrastructure include the Centellis™ portfolio of ATCA systems, which includes NEBS Level 3 pre-certified application-ready configurations to save customers development time and cost. A wide variety of payload blades and software enable Artesyn Centellis systems to be deployed in a range of NFV applications such as session border controllers, content optimization and security appliances.

Jim Darroch, senior director of embedded computing software product marketing, Artesyn Embedded Technologies, said: “By accelerating the performance of virtual network functions (VNFs) and providing features that simplify the instantiation, management, and maintenance of VNFs, Artesyn computing platforms – based on open standards and validated through the Titanium Cloud program – enable customers to minimize both capital expenses and operating expenses as they progressively deploy NFV in their networks.”

Charlie Ashton, senior director of business development for networking solutions at Wind River, said: “Communication service providers looking for validated end-to-end NFV solutions that comprise interoperable products can now turn to one of the leaders in standards-based computing platforms for communications infrastructure – Artesyn – with the confidence that their participation in the Titanium Cloud program provides validated, interoperable hardware and software, based on Wind River Titanium Server running on Intel architecture platforms.”

Wind River Titanium Server delivers the carrier grade capabilities that enable service providers to maintain the rigorous uptime required as networks transition to a virtualized infrastructure. Using Titanium Server, companies can reduce operating expenses (OPEX) and increase average revenue per user (ARPU) as they deploy NFV in their networks. Wind River Titanium Server is based on open source technologies including Wind River Linux, optimized real-time Kernel-Based Virtual Machine (KVM++), and carrier grade enhancements to OpenStack® and the Intel® Data Plane Development Kit (Intel® DPDK).
