Algo-Logic Systems Joins OpenPOWER Foundation

Santa Clara, California, August 20, 2014 – Algo-Logic Systems, Inc., a recognized leader in providing Gateware Defined Networking (GDN)®, announced today they have joined the OpenPOWER Foundation.  This open development community leverages the IBM POWER architecture to serve the needs of the Enterprise datacenter customers.  By mapping algorithms into FPGA logic for heterogeneous POWER computing platforms, Algo-Logic’s products and solutions drastically lower latency and energy usage while increasing throughput for financial trading networks, datacenter networks, and in-memory databases.

Algo-Logic Systems is glad to join IBM, Altera, and a growing roster of technology organizations working collaboratively to build advanced server, storage, and networking acceleration technology as well as industry leading open source software aimed at delivering more choice, control, and flexibility to developers of next-generation heterogeneous Cloud datacenters.  The group makes POWER hardware and software available to open development for the first time, along with making POWER intellectual property licensable to others, greatly expanding the ecosystem of innovators on the POWER platform.

Algo-Logic intends to work with the OpenPOWER Application Software group to deliver industry leading GDN solutions such as the ultra-low-latency accelerated finance Order Book, TCP Endpoint, and low-latency Key Value Search (KVS) solutions for the Enterprise Power8 servers on platforms based on FPGAs from fellow OpenPOWER member Altera Corporation.

  • 1. The accelerated finance Order Book maintains the best bid/ask prices for traded instruments directly from a live market feed.  It enables financial institutions, market makers, and hedge funds to accelerate trading, implement risk checks, and perform real-time financial analytics with the absolute lowest latency.
  • 2. The TCP Endpoint enables logic in an FPGA card to reliably forward data over multiple 10 Gigabit Ethernet connections.  It enables a Power8 server to communicate with compute servers, storage devices, and web servers with deterministic latency of only 76 nanoseconds.
  • 3. Algo-Logic’s KVS solutions provide key/value storage over standard 10G, 40G, and 100G Ethernet with sub-microsecond latency.  The KVS is ideal for sharing data between servers, tracking stock market orders, and maintaining tables in telecom databases.

“Algo-Logic has a unique capability to put together complete application level solutions leveraging FPGA acceleration with ultra-low-latency links to the processor.  Innovating around the link between processor and accelerator architectures is at the core of the spirit of the OpenPOWER Foundation,” says Brad McCredie, President of the OpenPOWER Foundation and IBM Fellow and Vice President.  “The POWER architecture invented CAPI to allow coherent, low-latency links between the processor and an FPGA, so we are eager to demonstrate with Algo-Logic how their GDN solutions can exploit this technology.”

We are pleased to become the newest member of the OpenPOWER Foundation.  This allows us to extend our industry leading GDN® accelerated solutions to a wider base of financial users, Cloud service providers, Internet Service Providers (ISPs), and Host Service Providers (HSPs),” says John Lockwood, CEO of Algo-Logic Systems, Inc.

Quickly and accurately identify inter-domain leakage issues in IC designs

Sponsored by Siemens Digital Industries Software

Power domain leakage is a major IC reliability issue, often missed by traditional tools. This white paper describes challenges of identifying leakage, types of false results, and presents Siemens EDA’s Insight Analyzer. The tool proactively finds true leakage paths, filters out false positives, and helps circuit designers quickly fix risks—enabling more robust, reliable chip designs. With detailed, context-aware analysis, designers save time and improve silicon quality.
