Avnet Electronics Marketing Introduces New Artix-7 50T FPGA Evaluation Kit

PHOENIX– June 10, 2014 — Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), today introduced the Artix®-7 50T FPGA Evaluation Kit featuring the Xilinx® Artix®-7 FPGA, a low-cost device, with half the power consumption and twice the performance and logic capacity versus previous generations. The Artix-7 50T FPGA Evaluation Kit allows engineers to evaluate the small form-factor of Artix-7 FPGAs for high-volume applications in cost-sensitive markets such as industrial control, test and measurement, medical and communications, at a price of $239.

The Artix-7 50T FPGA board included in the kit provides the necessary interfaces and functions to support most prototyping needs. Board features include the Artix-7 XC7A50T-1FTG256C FPGA, 256 MB of DDR3 SDRAM, 32 MB QSPI Flash, Dual 10/100 Ethernet PHYs, USB-UART port, on-board JTAG programming port, and 6 Digilent-compatible Pmod™ expansion ports. Example reference designs supporting the MicroBlaze™ soft processor and industrial Ethernet are provided through the Avnet Design Resource Center.

“With Artix-7 FPGAs, designers no longer have to make tradeoffs between high performance and power efficiency, or advanced functionality and competitive pricing. These devices can do it all,” said Jim Beneke, vice president of global technical marketing for Avnet Electronics Marketing. “The Artix-7 50T FPGA Evaluation Kit will enable engineers to accelerate the design of highly differentiated next-generation systems such as industrial control, portable medical equipment and industrial networking.”

“With the new Artix-7 50T FPGA Evaluation Kit, customers can design their systems leveraging the Artix-7 device’s low power, low cost, and high performance benefits,” said Dave Myron, senior director of FPGA product management at Xilinx. “In addition to the Artix-7 50T device, the new Artix-7 35T and 75T devices, all in volume production, complement the Xilinx Low-End Portfolio delivering the broadest, cost effective, and best value optimized for a diverse set of market requirements.”

The Artix-7 50T FPGA Evaluation Kit includes:

  • Artix-7 50T FPGA board
  • 2 USB micro-B cables (1 for power/UART, 1 for JTAG)
  • 1 Ethernet cable
  • Quick Start Card
  • Voucher for the Vivado® Design Edition license, device-locked to the Artix-7 50T FPGA

Engineers can order the Artix-7 50T FPGA Evaluation Kit now. Shipments will begin by the end of July. For more information on the kit, please visithttp://bit.ly/1oCN0hO.

About Xilinx Artix-7 FPGAs

The transceiver optimized Artix®-7 FPGA family redefines low-cost alternatives with twice the performance and logic capacity of previous generation FPGAs. The family offers high performance, low power transceivers, which makes them the smallest and fastest transceiver-based programmable devices in the industry. In addition to transceiver optimization, the Artix-7 family features high speed digital signal processor (DSP) slices, analog mixed signal (AMS), and DDR3 memory interfaces, making it an ideal low-cost alternative for bandwidth-sensitive applications that would otherwise require mid-range solutions.
