Avnet Electronics Marketing Design Expert to Co-Present Workshop Featuring the FinBoard Embedded Vision Starter Kit in Conjunction with the Embedded Vision Summit

PHOENIX—May 21, 2014 — Avnet Electronics Marketing, an operating group of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT) announced today that Technical Marketing Engineer Mario Bergeron will co-present a hands-on workshop exploring hardware and software for image processing and video analytics on May 28 in conjunction with the Embedded Vision Summit. The in-depth tutorial, featuring the FinBoard Embedded Vision Starter Kit, will demonstrate the basics of designing embedded systems that incorporate computer vision techniques. Embedded vision specialists from Analog Devices Inc. and BDTI will co-present with Bergeron.

The Embedded Vision Summit is a technical conference and exhibition focused on practical technical education for software and hardware developers who want to incorporate visual intelligence into their products. The Summit will be held at the Santa Clara Convention Center on May 29. The Embedded Vision Summit Hands-on Workshop using the Avnet Embedded Vision Starter Kit will take place on May 28, from 7:30 am to 2 pm.

“Machine vision continues to be one of the hottest applications out there today,” said Bergeron. “I am looking forward to working with my colleagues from Analog Devices and BDTI to introduce workshop attendees to the vast potential of this exciting technology, and demonstrating how the FinBoard Embedded Vision Starter Kit can dramatically reduce the cost and implementation barriers to getting a broad range of vision-based applications up and running.”

During the workshop, Bergeron will assist the attendees in setting up their brand new FinBoard Embedded Vision Starter Kit, included with the training, and demonstrate how to quickly load an example vision application that can count the dots of several dice at the blink of an eye! Based on the low-cost, dual core Blackfin BF609 processor, the kit combines a versatile hardware platform with the necessary software development tools to enable the building of high performance, embedded vision systems for target markets including industrial/machine vision, surveillance analytics, building automation, bar code scanning and gesture recognition.

The full workshop agenda is as follows:

  • Introduction to Embedded Vision
  • Introduction to Edge Detection and Contours
  • Lab 1 – Experimenting with Edge Detection/Contours
  • Introduction to the FinBoard – Embedded Vision Starter Kit
  • Introduction to the Blackfin BF609 Processor/Tools
  • Introduction to the PVP Hardware Vision Accelerator
  • Lab 2 – Hardware setup/Edge Detection Demo
  • Lab 3 – Overview of Dot Counting Algorithm
  • Walkthrough of Dot Counting Algorithm
  • Edge Detection For Multiple Computer Vision Applications

A $99 workshop fee includes one FinBoard Embedded Vision Starter Kit (a $299+ value) and complimentary breakfast and lunch. Click here to register for the Embedded Vision Summit Hands-on Workshop.

Quickly and accurately identify inter-domain leakage issues in IC designs

Sponsored by Siemens Digital Industries Software

Power domain leakage is a major IC reliability issue, often missed by traditional tools. This white paper describes challenges of identifying leakage, types of false results, and presents Siemens EDA’s Insight Analyzer. The tool proactively finds true leakage paths, filters out false positives, and helps circuit designers quickly fix risks—enabling more robust, reliable chip designs. With detailed, context-aware analysis, designers save time and improve silicon quality.
