Jumpstart High-Performance Digital-Lighting Designs with STLUXTM Development Platform from STMicroelectronics

Geneva, May 19, 2014 – The STLUX™ development environment, consisting of demonstration boards, a graphical configurator, software libraries, and compiler, provides everything needed to start designing high-performance LED lighting with STLUX385A, the first in a new family of lighting controllers featuring a breakthrough digital control technique from STMicroelectronics.

ST will unveil the STLUX development environment at PCIM Europe 2014 in Nuremberg with a plug-and-play demonstration board featuring all STLUX385A functionalities and a user-friendly ecosystem for programming PWM waveforms using the six on-chip SMED (State Machines Event Driven) digital controllers. The SMED is an advanced hardware-configurable state machine where state advancement is automatically triggered by internal or external events thereby ensuring faster response than a conventional interrupt-driven microprocessor. In addition, the STLUX385A supports smart-grid connectivity and DALI[1]communication for remote control, enabling use in energy-efficient lighting throughout smart cities.

Using the STLUX development environment, designers can control the STLUX385A via a serial line and a console. The graphical SMED configurator simplifies design of innovative topologies targeting maximum efficiency at full load with minimum energy consumption in idle conditions, high-quality dimming with high current-control precision. Ready-to-use application examples are also provided.

The demonstration boards are currently available for sampling from ST. For further information and links to all components of STLUX ecosystem, please visit www.st.com/stlux_development_kit

Note to Editors

The STLUX385A includes six SMEDs with 10ns reaction time, four analog comparators with internally-generated and external references, an Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) with an 8-channel sequencer, native DALI, built-in memory including 32Kbytes program Flash, serial and I²C communication channels, and an integrated low-power STM8® microcontroller. The STLUX development environment also provides a highly optimized compiler for the microcontroller, together with the related in-circuit debugger/programmer.

Quickly and accurately identify inter-domain leakage issues in IC designs

Sponsored by Siemens Digital Industries Software

Power domain leakage is a major IC reliability issue, often missed by traditional tools. This white paper describes challenges of identifying leakage, types of false results, and presents Siemens EDA’s Insight Analyzer. The tool proactively finds true leakage paths, filters out false positives, and helps circuit designers quickly fix risks—enabling more robust, reliable chip designs. With detailed, context-aware analysis, designers save time and improve silicon quality.
