TI delivers most robust single- and dual-channel gate drivers for automotive applications with Industry’s fastest propagation delays

DALLAS (April. 30, 2014) – Texas Instruments (TI) (NASDAQ:TXN) today introduced six, AEC-Q100-qualified gate drivers with industry’s fastest propagation delays of less than 15 nanoseconds. The UCC275xx-Q1 family of single- and dual-channel gate drivers provides the highest power efficiency, reliability and flexibility compared to existing solutions for automotive applications, such as powertrain, bi-directional converters (12- to 48-V and 12- to 400-V input), onboard charging, traction inverters, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), safety, headlamps and instrumentation clusters. For more information and samples, visit:  www.ti.com/ucc27531q1-pr or www.ti.com/ucc27517Aq1-pr .

Demanding requirements to improve fuel efficiency mean automotive systems must shrink in size, lowering the overall weight of the vehicle. The ultra-low propagation delays in the UCC275xx-Q1 family help automotive systems efficiently switch power electronics at high frequencies to maintain a small footprint and reduce overall vehicle weight.

Key features and benefits of the UCC275xx-Q1 gate drivers:

  • Integrated solution saves space and enables highest efficiency: With peak currents ranging from 2.5 A to 5 A and propagation delays of less than 15 ns, TI’s automotive output-stage drivers can replace discrete totem pole solutions. This cuts down board space, reduces system cost and enables the gate drivers to be placed closer to the switch, which cuts down parasitic inductances and improves efficiency.
  • Reliable and robust: The wide temperature range of -40 to 140 degrees Celsius and negative input voltage of -5 V enables handling of ground bouncing experienced in harsh environments.
  • Design flexibility to support a wide input voltage range: Supports 4.5 V to 35 V to drive wide bandgap switches, such as SiC, MOSFETs and IGBTs that are capable of withstanding high temperatures without compromising efficiency. Additionally, the inverting functions of the UCC27518A-Q1 and UCC27519A-Q1, and non-inverting functions of the UCC27531-Q1, UCC27517A-Q1, UCC27519A-Q1 and UCC27524A-Q1 add the flexibility needed to handle different types of inputs.

Tools and support

Designers can get started today on designing with the UCC27531-Q1 by ordering the UCC27531EVM-184 evaluation module for US$49.00. TheUCC27532EVM-538 is available for US49.00.

In addition to a PSpice model, two TINA-TI SPICE simulation models for the UCC27531-Q1 help simplify design. The UCC27532-Q1 has aPOWERSTAGE-DESIGNER development tool.
