IDT Introduces VersaClock 5® with Best-in-class Jitter Performance at 50% Lower Power than Competing Devices

SAN JOSE, Calif., March 11, 2014 – Integrated Device Technology, Inc. (IDT®) (NASDAQ: IDTI), the Analog and Digital Company™ delivering essential mixed-signal semiconductor solutions, today announced that it has extended its leadership in the timing market with the introduction of the VersaClock 5 family of programmable clock generators, featuring best-in-class jitter performance at half the power of competing devices. IDT’s multi-output timing solution consolidates system components with superior design flexibility, making it ideal for cost-sensitive, low-power consumer and low-jitter communications applications.

The 5P49V5901 is an in-system programmable clock generator featuring four universal output pairs capable of producing independent frequencies up to 350 MHz in various output types. The highly-integrated device consolidates four differential or eight single-ended clock generators, and can store up to four different configuration settings, helping to minimize board space and bill-of-materials. With RMS phase jitter less than 0.7 picoseconds over the full 12 kHz to 20 MHz integration range, the new device meets the stringent jitter requirements of PCI Express® Gen 1/2/3, USB 3.0, and 1G/10G Ethernet. The high-performance clock generator operates at less than 100 mW core power (50 percent lower than competing devices), helping to ease system thermal constraints, reduce operating power expenses, and maximize battery life.

“VersaClock 5 is the best-in-class, complete clock tree solution for cost-sensitive, low-power consumer and low-jitter communication timing applications,” said Christian Kermarrec, vice president and general manager of the Timing and Synchronization Division at IDT. “Architecting a clock tree can be a complex process that is often further complicated by the inflexibility of crystal oscillator frequencies and procurement requirements. VersaClock 5 solves these issues with inherent flexibility in frequency and output configuration, crystal consolidation, and world-class support tools.”

The 5P49V5901’s four universal output pairs are each independently configurable as HCSL, LVPECL, LVDS, or dual LVCMOS outputs. The fractional output dividers driving each output pair are easily programmed via I2C while the device is operating in the system, lending itself to system tuning and margin testing. Unlimited in-system reprogramming is possible via I2C, whereas four banks of one-time programmable non-volatile memory provide flexibility for multi-project inventory consolidation or design changes in field or production units. Upon request, devices may be factory-programmed to the customer’s desired configuration.

The high level of integration, flexibility, and performance enables system designers to address a multitude of applications, such as: consumer, networking, computing, industrial, communications, broadcast video, and medical. The new product is fully supported by IDT’s Timing Commander™ software platform, allowing engineers to configure and program their devices with an intuitive, time-saving graphical user interface (GUI). Pre-developed configuration files are available for the most common applications.

Pricing and Availability

The IDT 5P49V5901 is stocked at all of IDT’s major distributors. The device is available in a 24-lead 4 x 4 mm VFQFPN package, and is priced at $4.50 each for volumes of 10,000 units.
