Imagination Technologies and Synopsys Collaborate to Enable Faster Emulation

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., and LONDON, Feb. 25, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — Synopsys, Inc. (Nasdaq:SNPS), a global leader providing software, IP and services used to accelerate innovation in chips and electronic systems, and Imagination Technologies (IMG.L) today announced a collaboration to enable designers to speed verification and hardware/software bring-up of system on chips (SoCs) containing Imagination Technologies’ latest PowerVR Series6 GPU (graphics processing unit) cores using ZeBu® Server emulators. With the Synopsys ZeBu® Server-3 emulation system, Imagination was able to achieve over 3.5 MHz performance for significantly higher verification throughput and improved GPU driver development productivity. The two companies are working together to optimize performance for a broad range of Imagination’s cores on ZeBu Server-3, including a range of PowerVR GPUs and MIPS central processing units (CPUs). With this collaboration, the companies look to make high performance emulation more easily accessible for a broad range of companies developing advanced SoCs.

“The PowerVR Rogue GPU architecture drives performance to new levels while consuming low memory bandwidth and delivering high performance per mm2 and per mW,” said Martin Ashton, executive vice president of engineering, PowerVR Visual IP, Imagination. “Delivering next-generation IP requires high-performance design verification technology. Using Synopsys ZeBu Server-3, we were able to achieve 3.5 MHz performance on our latest PowerVR GPUs. The increase in performance using latest-generation emulators like ZeBu Server-3 delivers higher productivity not only for silicon and software IP developers like Imagination, but also for SoC developers integrating our IP.”

“Imagination Technologies is advancing the state-of-the art in technology with solutions such as their PowerVR GPUs, MIPS CPUs and other processors,” said Manoj Gandhi, senior vice president and general manager, Verification Group, at Synopsys. “Our collaboration with Imagination will help their customers bring-up and verify complex SoCs more quickly by taking advantage of Synopsys ZeBu Server-3’s industry-leading emulation performance.”
