Rorke Global Solutions Partners With UTSA to Launch Second Open Compute Innovation Lab

PHOENIX– January 28, 2014 — Rorke Global Solutions ™ (RGS), a business unit of Avnet, Inc.’s (NYSE:AVT) Electronics Marketing group in the Americas, today announced the launch of its second Open Compute Project Innovation Lab in partnership with the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). Similar to its first lab located in Eden Prairie, Minn., the RGS facility will showcase OCP technology and offer space for users, developers and partners to design, deliver and integrate cost-effective, power-efficient compute, storage and networking solutions.

Working closely with students at UTSA, the RGS OCP Innovation Lab will provide the OCP community with local and remote access to resources for developing and qualifying OCP-branded solutions, as well as interoperability with non-OCP products and solutions. RGS support for the lab reinforces a commitment to the RGS Open Compute Project Innovation program, announced in early 2013, which enables development of efficient server, storage and data center hardware designs for scalable computing. The first Decathlete platform to become OCP certified was approved in January of 2014 by UTSA as a result of contributions made by Intel (NASDAQ: INTC), Micron Technology (NYSE: MU) and RGS. Decathlete is a server motherboard specification contributed to the OCP community by Intel featuring support for dual Intel® Xeon™ processors.

“RGS is committed to helping our customers create cost-effective, power-efficient compute, storage and networking solutions,” said Scott MacDonald, vice president and general manager, RGS. “And, we’re also passionate about contributing to the education of young developers who will pioneer next-generation technology in the not-so-distant future.”

“It has been proven through the years that open technology can bring about faster innovation,” said UTSA Certification and Solution Laboratory Director Paul Rad. “This partnership will not only train our students in real-world scenarios, but will also benefit Avnet’s customers through the research and testing of breakthrough technologies.”

You can learn more about the OCP Innovation Labs by visiting booth B11 at the OCP Summit in San Jose, Calif., Jan. 28-29, where RGS experts will be on hand to discuss the labs’ capabilities in more detail. Or for more information, please visit www.rorke.com.
