IAR Systems updates its popular development tools for Atmel AVR 8-bit microcontrollers

Uppsala, Sweden—December 19, 2013—Today, IAR Systems® introduces a new version of its complete C/C++ development toolchain IAR Embedded Workbench® for AVR. The toolchain, popular with the AVR community, has been updated to version 6.30 that includes improved compiler optimizations as well as new device support and updated user guides.

Despite growth in system complexity and an industry focusing on 32-bit microcontrollers, AVR 8-bits are continuously being used in many embedded applications such as automotive applications, battery management and different wireless solutions. IAR Systems has a large customer base of developers working with AVR and the company remains committed to supplying world-class tools for embedded developers across the entire bit range: 8-, 16-, and 32-bits alike.

The powerful code optimization possibilities have been further improved in this version of IAR Embedded Workbench for AVR. This will help developers to execute the target code faster and get smaller code size. Added compiler functionality, that includes new pragma directives to set default placement and attributes for variable or function declarations and definitions, allows users to override multiple declarations and definitions by using a single pragma.

The target system support in the comprehensive C-SPY® Debugger now supports the Atmel Embedded Debugger (EDBG) debugger interface. New in version 6.30 are also support for several new Atmel AVR devices, and updated user guides to help and guide developers in how to get the most out of their tools.

IAR Embedded Workbench for AVR is a complete set of high-performance C/C++ development tools with extensive support for devices in all AVR families. The powerful toolchain features world-leading code optimizations and is also available with extensive support for Atmel’s 32-bit AVR and ARM devices.

Secure Authentication ICs for Disposable and Accessory Ecosystems
Sponsored by Mouser Electronics and Microchip
Secure authentication for disposable and accessory ecosystems is a critical element for many embedded systems today. In this episode of Chalk Talk, Amelia Dalton and Xavier Bignalet from Microchip discuss the benefits of Microchip’s Trust Platform design suite and how it can provide the security you need for your next embedded design. They investigate the value of symmetric authentication and asymmetric authentication and the roles that parasitic power and package size play in these kinds of designs.
