CHICAGO – August 23, 2013 – Newark element14 has announced it will stock the new Freescale Freedom development platform, the FRDM-KL46Z, the most advanced and feature rich development platform based on the Kinetis L series of MCUs.
Featuring the ARM® Cortex™-M0+ based MCU, the FRDM-KL46Z Freedom development platform costs $15 and offers design engineers a low cost evaluation development system perfect for exploring the capabilities of the Kinetis KL46Z MCUs and is available through Newark element14 in North America, Farnell element14 in Europe, and element14 in Asia Pacific.
Designed for remote controls, thermostats, digital timers and portable consumer devices requiring long battery life, enhanced onboard memory and an LCD display and/or USB interface, the feature rich platform allows for quick application prototyping and offers MCU I/O, battery-ready, low-power operation, with expansion board options and a built-in debug interface for flash programming and run-control.
David Shen, Group CTO at Premier Farnell, said: “The KL46Z MCU is the most advanced member of the Kinetis L series of MCUs. The enhanced features open up the possibilities available to design engineers and hugely extend the scope of the applications available on the Freedom development platform. We’re excited to introduce this to our community of engineers and watch the innovations it will enable.”
John Dixon, Worldwide Business Development Manager for Freescale’s Microcontroller group, added: “This launch is the latest step in our collaboration with Premier Farnell. The new capabilities offered by the KL46Z MCU will enable a range of new exciting solutions for a broad spectrum of applications in areas ranging from consumer to medical.”
The FRDM-KL46Z hardware is also form-factor compatible with the Arduino™ R3 pin layout, providing a broad range of expansion board options. The on-board interfaces includes a 4 digit segment LCD, a 3-axis digital accelerometer, a magnetometer, a capacitive touch slider, and an ambient light sensor.
