Zuken eases implementation and manufacturability of high-speed PCB designs

20 August 2013 – Munich, Germany and Westford, MA, USA – Zuken, a leader in electronic systems design, today announces the latest release of its CR-5000 enterprise PCB design software.

CR-5000 Version 15 features enhanced collaboration with electronic manufacturing services (EMS) and simplified implementation of high-speed interfaces. Other new functionality includes routing with impedance control for improved signal integrity management, and day-to-day productivity enhancements.

Steve Chidester, Head of International Marketing, comments: “We continue to provide significant support and development for our CR-5000 product line, the world’s most-used PCB design solution. Our customers are continually seeking more ways to improve their productivity and overall design quality. This new release is the direct result of customer feedback and requests.”

Control impedance for improved signal integrity management

As high-speed interfaces are becoming ubiquitous, simplifying their implementation is vital. CR-5000 Lightning includes new functionality for routing with impedance control that enables engineers to route to JEDEC standards and meet DDR3 performance specifications. This reduces design iterations and helps designers optimize circuits for the highest clock speeds. Routing with impedance control makes it easier for engineers to reduce impedance discontinuities in high-speed manual routing, such as lead-in routing specified in JEDEC standard JESD21-C for DDR3 memory.

Signal integrity management is also boosted through new automatic setup and hold measurements that make eye diagram studies much easier and saves time through the ability to automate data gathering. Engineers can now more easily evaluate key signal timing parameters on the interface before the design reaches prototype stage.

Data exchange for manufacturability

As board design becomes more complex, so does the manufacturing hand-off process. CR-5000 Board Designer supports the latest version of ODB++ for exchanging fabrication and assembly data with the manufacturing community. Together with IPC-2581, Zuken offers a choice of output formats, allowing for efficient data processing that boosts productivity.

Productivity enhancements

Additional enhancements in Board Designer include dimension line generation, hole drawing tables to ease design documentation, and an improved interface for Agilent Momentum RF design verification. To enable direct data exchange with 3D MCAD systems, Board Designer supports the output of bend/stretch areas for flexible PCB design. Enhancements in System Designer include improvements to line inputs and view control for variant components.
