New Freescale Freedom Development Platform for the Kinetis K20 MCU available globally from Premier Farnell

April 10, 2013 CHICAGO – Premier Farnell is pleased to announce the global availability of Freescale Semiconductor’s newest Freedom Development Platform for evaluating Kinetis K20 MCUs at element14.

The new FRDM-K20D50M Development Platform is form-factor compatible with the Arduino™ R3 pin layout, providing a broad range of expansion board options. The on-board interfaces include an RGB LED, a 3-axis digital accelerometer, capacitive touch slider and ambient light sensor. The FRDM-K20D50M features the Freescale open standard embedded serial and debug adapter known as OpenSDA. This circuit offers several options for serial communications, flash programming and run-control debugging.

The FRDM-K20D50M features the Kinetis MK20DX128VLH5 Microcontroller that is built on the powerful ARM Cortex-M4 processor.  With 1.25DMIPS/MHz of processing power and backed by a K20 series memory range from 32 KB to1MB, the new platform is ideally suited to high performance demanding applications.

“We are delighted to be partnering with Freescale in their drive to provide easy access to powerful microcontroller-based solutions” said David Shen, Group CTO at Premier Farnell.  “The FRDM-K20D50M is the latest evolution of their Freedom Development Platform series and it provides all software and hardware tools needed for evaluation and development.”

Premier Farnell offers design engineers a space to share project concepts with 160,000 members in its award-winning online community element14, the first of its kind. Additionally the industry’s most comprehensive online knowledge tool for electronic design the Knode on element14 is a first stop for any engineer undertaking a design project with a new development kit.

Technical information for the FRDM-K20D50M Freescale Freedom Development Platform is available at element14.

About element14

Launched in June 2009, element14 is the first information portal, collaborative community and electronics store specifically built for electronic design engineers. The community recently unveiled its element14 knode, a unique automated platform that enables engineers to quickly research, design, develop and prototype in a single, intelligent environment. element14 is an innovative offering from Premier Farnell plc (LSE:pfl), FTSE 250, a leader in multi-channel electronics distribution trading throughout Europe (Farnell), the Americas (Newark) and Asia Pacific (element14). The company had group sales of £952m last year.
