Plessey Semiconductors introduces its family of ultra-low noise, high current linear regulators with input voltage as high as 12V

Plymouth, ENGLAND – 27 February 2013 – Plessey Semiconductors today announced the release of the PS2292X family of easy-to-use, robust, linear regulator products that uses Plessey’s bipolar process to offer industry-leading, low noise performance and very low dropout (LDO) current.

The devices are part of a high current, single supply, LDO family that operates from an input voltage as low as 1.7V and as high as 12V. Targeted at consumer applications such as Set Top Boxes and gateways, industrial, medical, communication and computing markets, the regulators are an ideal choice for low voltage, post regulation applications. The new regulators offer fast transient response while maintaining high Power Supply Rejection Ratio (PSRR).

“Designed on Plessey’s proprietary, state-of-the-art bipolar process, the line of linear regulators offers superior power density and industrial leading low noise performance,” said David Owen, Plessey’s Global Sales Director. “Many applications are demanding wider input voltages ranges for their power management to reduce the step down regulation requirements whilst maintaining stable voltage rails down to 0.5V to power low voltage processors and micro controller cores.”

The PS2292X family is comprised of the PS22921, PS22922 and PS22924 detailed in the following matrix:

Part Number

Output Current

Other key features include adjustable and fixed voltage output options, ON/OFF control, power good with 500 microseconddelay, ByPass pin for ultra-low noise, over temperature and over current protection. They are rated over a wide temperature range of -40°C to 125°C junction temperature, making them ideal for many different applications. The regulators are stable with small ESR ceramic capacitors coupled with thermally and space-efficient packages to power a wide range of applications. Prices are in the region of 5 to 15 US cents depending on specification and volume.
