Wind River Joins OSADL to Advance Linux in Embedded and Industrial Designs

EMBEDDED WORLD, Nuremberg, Germany – Feb. 26, 2013 – Wind River®, a world leader in embedded and mobile software, has joined the Open Source Automation Development Lab (OSADL). With its membership, Wind River will collaborate with other OSADL members to further promote and support Linux solutions for the embedded and industrial markets.

Founded in 2005, OSADL fosters the development of open source projects in the areas of embedded systems and industrial design, including projects focused on real-time and safety-related systems, and special drivers for the Linux kernel required by the automation industry. OSADL connects equipment manufacturers, hardware and software companies, service providers, and user associations to achieve synergies to grow open source initiatives.

“OSADL continues to be a driver for the development of Linux and open source projects to meet the demands of the automation industry,” said Dr. Carsten Emde, general manager of the OSADL. “With its heritage of extensive embedded and industry experience, we welcome Wind River to the OSADL. Wind River has been a strong open source champion and we look forward to working with them.”

“As leader for real-time Linux and open source development in industrial automation, the OSADL is helping the industry embrace state-of-the-art innovations,” said Chris Buerger, senior director of open platform products at Wind River. “Our open source expertise and offerings such as Wind River Linux allow us to bring the latest open source advancements including Yocto Project Compatibility, combined with the confidence that comes with leading commercial-grade embedded Linux products and global support, to the OSADL community.”
