LynuxWorks LynxOS-SE Deployed by ITT Exelis in New Line of Software-Defined Radios

SAN JOSE, CA–November 12, 2012–LynuxWorks, Inc., a world leader in the embedded software market, today announced LynuxWorks’ LynxOS -SE real-time operating system (RTOS) has been selected by ITT Exelis for their new line of software-defined radios (SDR) that includes Soldier Radio, Rifleman Radio and SideHat® variants for the U.S. and International SDR markets.

SDR must be certified by the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS) Joint Program Executive Office to be compliant with its standards for Software Communications Architecture (SCA) 2.2.2. and Application Programming Interfaces (APIs).  ITT Exelis Operating Environment (OE) was certified with no waivers, obtaining the highest degree of compliance.

“This selection for the ITT Exelis software defined radios demonstrates the strength of the security capabilities combined with the high performance of the LynxOS-SE RTOS,” stated Robert Day, VP of Marketing for LynuxWorks. “The partitioning capability in LynxOS-SE makes this an ideal solution to meet the complex security requirements demanded in military-grade software defined radios.”

About LynxOS-SE RTOS

Safety, security and reliability are achieved through Virtual Machine (VM) brick-wall partitions, which make it impossible for system events in one partition to interfere with events in another. Each partition runs as a virtual machine with dedicated resources.  Memory and resources are never shared between the partitions in a LynxOS-SE system, and an ARINC 653-based fixed-cyclic scheduling algorithm ensures that the system is deterministic and safe by providing each partition with fixed cycles of execution time.

LynxOS-SE RTOS is the first and only time- and space-partitioned, hard real-time operating system with the ability to run POSIX and ARINC 653 applications simultaneously in a single partition. It offers additional security features over traditional RTOS solutions, such as discretionary access control, roles, privileges, auditing, identification and authentication, quotas and trusted paths.

LynxOS-SE is available on Intel x86, Intel Atom, PowerPC and ARM architectures.
