Maxwell Technologies To Deliver Presentation ON Improved Solid-State Drive (SSD) Performance At Flash Memory Summit

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (August 13, 2012) – Maxwell Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: MXWL) announced today it will give a presentation entitled “Improve SSD Performance With Ultracapacitor Power Backup” (session 301-B) at the Flash Memory Summit on August 23, 2012 from 8:30 a.m. – 9:40 a.m. at the Santa Clara Convention Center, Santa Clara, California.  Maxwell’s director of application engineering will present the latest information on improving SSD cache-to-flash applications by integrating ultracapacitor backup power.

Maxwell Technologies’ presentation will highlight how system designers can obtain DRAM level performance along with the non-volatility associated with NAND flash devices by including ultracapacitor backup capability into cache-to-flash applications that require short bursts of power to perform data backup in case of power interruption.

“Approximately 20 percent of the enterprise Solid State Drives delivered in 2011 contained ultracapacitors from Maxell Technologies,” said Dave Wright, director of application engineering at Maxwell Technologies.  “The use of ultracapacitors as the backup power source has been proven to provide reliable, cost-effective backup for the life of the drive without the need for battery monitoring or replacement.  This results in higher performance, better data integrity, and lower life cycle costs than other approaches.”

Wright is the director of application engineering at Maxwell Technologies.  He leads a team of engineers responsible for supporting Maxwell’s customers in Asia, Europe, and the Americas.  He holds a MSEE degree from Stanford University and a MS in the Management of Technology from MIT.  Prior to joining Maxwell, he spent more than 30 years with General Motors and Delphi in a variety of Advanced Development leadership roles.
