M2M Industry Leaders Launch Global M2M Challenge

Munich, Germany – July 13, 2012 – In a strong initiative sponsored globally by telecom industry giants Swisscom andEricsson, and segment leaders Telit Wireless Solutions andVARTA Microbattery, the M2M Challenge will be held for the first time in 2012 and is open to anyone in the machine-to-machine communication community. This competition in association with m2m apps is looking for game-changing applications in the leading segments inside the world of M2M – energy & smart grid, automotive & transport, security & surveillance, healthcare & wellness and consumer electronics. A truly unique opportunity for developers, entrepreneurs and companies from all over the world to win attractive prizes, network with thought leaders and gain instant mind share in the fascinating and fast-growing M2M market.

Innovators all over the world are turning to M2M-based solutions in unprecedented numbers in an effort to globalize footprint, optimize productivity & efficiency and streamline processes in the field of logistics and transport, security, supply chain management and many others. The opportunities for new business models are essentially endless. But as Robin Duke-Woolley, CEO of Beecham Research puts it, “The actual connecting of the device is not really the point of course—it’s what you do with that connection that counts. And it usually takes some innovative thinking to work that out,” which is exactly what the M2M Challenge is seeking to uncover.

m2m apps community members are welcome to enter their innovative solutions in five different categories—energy & smart grid, automotive & transport, security & surveillance, healthcare & wellness, and consumer electronics & more. The registration portal will be open for submissions from July 9 through December 31, 2012. An international panel of experts for each category will be evaluating the solutions in the dimensions of demand potential, technology innovation and new ways of exploiting the Internet of Things (IoT). As an expert and recognized authority in the various market fields of M2M communication, Beecham Research’s Robin Duke Woolley will head the panel of judges comprised of representatives from sponsors Swisscom, Ericsson, Telit and VARTA Microbattery, and partners including Team Côte d’Azur and Cluster 55.

M2M is rising and thriving in all markets and it is the goal of the M2M Challenge to provide contestants access to established players and potential customers in this exciting space, offering the winners a platform to present their innovations. The first prize winner will receive USD 5,000 in cash, and finalists will have the opportunity to showcase their solutions to a global audience of both industry professionals and media representatives. This will also provide contestants a unique chance to connect with potential partners and reach out to customers at a very early stage.
