Energy Micro and Spectrum Design Solutions to offer energy-efficient wireless designs

Oslo, Norway22 May 2012 – Energy Micro, the energy friendly microcontroller and radio company, today announced a strategic relationship with Spectrum Design Solutions, a division of Digi International (NASDAQ: DGII) that provides wireless design services. The two companies will work closely together to solve customers’ wireless design challenges using the Energy Micro EFM32 Gecko range of microcontrollers.

Spectrum Design Solutions employs more than 40 of the world’s foremost wireless design professionals. The new agreement connects this deep pool of talent and expertise with the powerful processing capabilities and best-in-class energy performance of the EFM32 series. Spectrum offers a complete range of wireless design and integration services, from requirements specification through to product certification, for medical devices, network communications, avionics, smart energy and fleet management.

Energy Micro’s Gecko microcontroller family consists of a range of more than 240 device variants based on the ARM Cortex processor cores. Benchmarked to consume just a quarter of the energy of competing 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit MCUs, the EFM32 Gecko series can extend the lifetime of a typical battery operated application by at least 300 per cent.

Spectrum Design Solutions offers complete hardware and software wireless design services, including wireless strategy consulting, product customization, custom antenna design and antenna validation services.  This enables OEMs to quickly and easily add wireless capabilities to new and existing products.
