Samtec’s SFP+ and QSFP+ Systems Deliver High Speed Performance

Samtec has expanded its High Speed Panel and I/O interfaces to include Eye Speed® SFP+ Passive Cable Assemblies and QSFP+ Active Optical Cable Assemblies. Both systems are designed to meet various standards and protocols for high speed performance ideal in telecommunication, data communication and storage area network applications.

The Eye Speed® SFP+ Passive Cable Assembly (SFPE Series) is compliant to SFP+ standards, and features a compact design with one channel (2 pair) transmitting up to 10 Gbps (5 GHz) on up to 3 meters of 32 AWG twinax copper cable, which reduces weight, increases airflow and provides greater port density within the rack. The cable assembly is hot swappable and backward compliant with standard SFP, making it a cost-effective solution for system maintenance and upgrades. Additionally, this assembly supports various communication standards such as Gigabit Ethernet and Fibre Channel. A right angle connector

(MECT Series) and cage (SFPC Series) complete the assembly, and are available together as a kit (SFPK Series) with excellent EMI grounding and shielding.

The QSFP+ Active Optical Cable Assembly (QSFPO Series) meets QSFP MSA form-factor specifications and is included in the InfiniBand Trade Association (IBTA) Integrators’ List as being tested and accepted by IBTA with compliance to InfiniBand architecture. The lightweight cable assembly features a small 3mm diameter optical cable for increased airflow in a rack and a tighter bend radius with cable lengths up to 100 meters. The optical engine embedded inside the cable connector converts electrical signal to optical with four channels (8 pairs) transmitting an aggregate bandwidth of up to 56 Gbps. Samtec’s unique fiber termination method allows for custom lengths, breakout cables with standard fiber connectors and best in class lead times.   Additionally, the cable assembly supports Ethernet protocols and requires a low power consumption of 750mW. This is less than half the power requirements of cables offered from competitors. A right angle connector (QSFP8 Series) and cage (QSFPC Series) complete the active optical assembly, and are available together as a kit (QSFPK Series).
