Appro Announces Availability for Server Platforms based on the New Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2600 product family

Milpitas, CA – March 6, 2012 – Appro (http://www.appro.com), a leading provider of supercomputing solutions, announced today the general availability and support for the next generation Appro GreenBlade™ and rackmount server platforms based on the new Intel® Xeon® processor E5-2600 product family to deliver improved floating point performance, operational efficiency and higher peak performance at the same power level as previous generations.

The new Appro server platforms feature 2 socket CPUs with up to 512GB of DDR3 memory per node, each CPU offers 8 cores with 16 threads per CPU with multiple PCIe 3.0 x16 expansion slots per system. The servers offer Intel Integrated I/O, supporting PCI Express 3.0 specification and Intel® Data Direct I/O technologies which makes the processor intelligently and dynamically determine the optimal path for I/O traffic based on the overall system utilization while allowing system memory to remain in low power state. This feature reduces processor latency bottlenecks by up to 30% while significantly improving the system performance and memory bandwidth. The new Appro server platforms also take advantage of Intel® Advanced Vector Extensions, or Intel® AVX providing up to two times the floating point operations per clock cycle by expanding the length of registers to improve the performance of complex scientific application problems.

Appro and Intel have also just released a new white paper, “Enabling Performance-per-Watt Gains in High Performance Cluster Computing”. The white paper describes the key factors influencing server platform selection including benchmark tests and results.
