Invensense® Launches MotionApps™ 5.0 Software For High Performance Location Based Services, Gesture Recognition, And Imaging Applications

SUNNYVALE, California, February 27, 2012 – InvenSense, Inc. (NYSE: INVN), the leading provider of MotionTracking™ devices for consumer electronics, today announced the release of the MotionApps™ 5.0 software platform. This update addresses the high degree of accuracy required to support new Motion Interface applications for mobile devices such as, navigation, gestures, augmented reality, and health and fitness monitoring. The new MotionApps 5.0 software platform, in combination with the InvenSense MPU-6050 or MPU-9050 integrated MotionTracking™ devices and third party pressure sensors, will provide complete 10-axis MotionFusion data. MotionApps 5.0 will also provide proprietary and patent pending functions for in-use motion bias correction, maintaining the accelerometer bias calibration to less than 30mg (typical) over the life of the device. The in-use calibration also brings a large cost savings to mobile device manufacturers by eliminating the need to perform sensor calibrations on the factory line. This release also features performance enhancements running on the embedded Digital Motion Processor (DMP) for ultra-low power system operation that includes interrupt-based gesture recognition, built-in pedometer, and sensor fusion, without intervention from the mobile device application processor.  MotionApps 5.0 also supports high precision timestamps to accurately align sensor and image data, resulting in improved image stabilization and processing required for today’s high resolution image captures.

The InvenSense MotionApps platform is the premier solution used by many leading OEMs today, delivering precise MotionTracking outputs including quaternion, rotation matrix, linear acceleration and gravity sensor fusion data.  With the new release of MotionApps 5.0, application developers will continue to leverage the benefits of a plug-and-play, high performance sensor sub-system incorporating the gyroscope together with the accelerometer and magnetometer, while gaining access to new, market-leading features including 10-axis support with the pressure sensor, high performance sensor calibration, low power gesture detection and motion tracking, and precision time stamps to support a wide range of new Mobile Applications.

“Discrete sensors today have limitations in areas of accuracy and responsiveness,” said Jérémie Bouchaud, Director & Senior Principal Analyst, MEMS & Sensors for IHS.  “To attain a higher level of accuracy, handsets, tablets, and other mobile devices require sensor fusion that combines the outputs of gyroscope, accelerometers, magnetometer, and pressure sensors to greatly enhance the motion interfaces needed for today’s market needs. “We anticipate the overall market for motion sensors i.e. accelerometers, gyroscopes and compasses in consumer and mobile applications will grow from $1.6 billion in 2011 to $2.5 in 2015.”

MotionApps 5.0 is available today for select customers on Adroid 4.0 and Microsoft Windows 8, with general availability at the end of Q1, 2012.  Please visit InvenSense at Mobile World Congress booth #7F24 Hall 7 to learn more about this product.
