Cavium to Collaborate With Intel on Providing Best-in-Class Wireless Display Consumer Experience

SAN JOSE, CA–(Marketwire – January 04, 2012) – “Intel® WiDi-based laptops have enjoyed a very rapid adoption in the market during the past two years, expected to pass the 20Mu mark by the end of 2011,” said Kerry Forell, Product Manager at Intel Corporation. “Through this collaboration with Cavium, we expect our customers to be able to offer products with a broader range of wireless display capabilities, which in turn should translate to more choices and enhanced experience for consumers.”Cavium, Inc. (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, and digital home applications, today announced a technology and marketing collaboration with Intel (NASDAQ: INTC) to offer Intel® WiDi-based products designed to enable superior wireless display consumer experience. The resulting end-to-end solution will combine Intel® WiDi’s ease-of-use and innovation with Cavium’s super low latency technology and advanced video processing techniques to further enhance Intel® WiDi’s interactivity and broaden its target applications. As a part of the marketing collaboration, Intel and Cavium will work together to expand and grow the market for wireless display products. A range of OEMs will soon be offering Intel® WiDi compatible receivers with Cavium’s PureVu™ media SoC. Live demonstrations of Cavium’s new Intel® WiDi receivers are available at Cavium’s suite at the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, between Jan 10th and 13th.

Since its initial introduction in 2010, Intel® WiDi has emerged as a leading wireless display PC solution, with broad adoption across that industry. Major PC OEMs are now offering the 2nd generation of Intel® WiDi, with 1080p resolution, 5.1 multi-channel sound, and HDCP content protection for delivering premium content. Intel® WiDi-enabled receivers constitute an important component of the complete solution, contributing to perceived video quality, end-to-end latency, and overall consumer experience. Leveraging Cavium’s highly integrated, low latency PureVu™ media processors, along with the company’s technology leadership in high quality and fully interactive wireless display solutions, customers can deliver a new line of Intel® WiDi compatible receivers that offer best-in-class wireless content sharing for next generation Intel notebooks, tablets, and handsets. In addition, as TV and PC monitor OEMs adopt Cavium’s media processors for their next generation products, consumers can enjoy this enhanced Intel® WiDi experience as an integrated function inside the display.

“We are very excited about collaborating with Intel in the rapidly growing wireless display market,” said Kourosh Amiri, Sr. Director of Marketing at Cavium’s Digital Home and Office Division. “Intel and Cavium share a common vision of enabling an immersive wireless display consumer experience. Both companies are fully committed to the WiFi Alliance’s wireless display standardization efforts. This collaboration will bring together the best of what the two companies have to offer to further enhance the wireless display market to deliver products that enable seamless content-sharing.”
