Mitrionics Announces Partnership with Russian FPGA-Card Manufacturer Rosta

Lund, Sweden, December 2011 – Mitrionics AB, developer of the Mitrion Virtual Processor, the Mitrion-C programming language and the Mitrion Software Development Kit for FPGA-based reconfigurable computing, today announced a new partnership with the leading Russian FPGA-card manufacturer Rosta.  The collaboration introduces a new generation of PCIe boards based on the large Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGAs for use with the Mitrion Virtual Processor and Mitrion-C programming language.  Mitrionics recently re-launched its company in November 2011 under new ownership, after receiving new funding sufficient for a two-year start-up period and long-term investor support.

“The Rosta FPGA cards are very well designed and represent excellent value for money,” stated Stefan Möhl, Mitrionics CTO.  “The Rosta RSP-529 utilizes two large Xilinx Virtex-6 FPGAs with a total of more than one million LUT-4 equivalents, so it has ample space to implement literally tens of thousands of parallel processing elements, allowing very high performance.”

The first board to come from the collaboration is the Mitrionics MVP PCIe-2×550 board. The MVP PCIe-2×550 is based on the Rosta RSP-529 board and includes two Xilinx Virtex-6 LX550T FPGAs connected to four parallel memory banks, each with 9 MB ZBT SRAM memory. SRAM memory is the same type of memory used in processor caches. Together with the full integration of the Mitrion Virtual Processor, this makes the MVP PCIe-2×550 board a ready-to-use high-performance reconfigurable computing platform.

“We are pleased with the successful integration of the Mitrion Software Development Kit and Mitrion Virtual Processor with our cards,” says Kim Khachaturyan, CTO of Rosta.  “By placing the massively parallel Mitrion Virtual Processor in an FPGA, it becomes possible to program it in software, while fully automating the FPGA’s unique benefit of having a circuit-design specifically adapted to each application. This makes our cards very suitable for the high performance computing market, where performance is paramount and hardware design skills aren’t as common as in the embedded system space.”

The MVP PCIe-2×550 board is currently available to order from Mitrionics. For more details, please contact sales@mitrionics.com or go to http://www.mitrionics.com

About Mitrionics

Mitrionics is the technology expert in FPGA-based software acceleration and hybrid computing. The Mitrion Platform, which includes the Mitrion Virtual Processor and the Mitrion-C Compiler and SDK, utilizes parallel programming and parallel processing to enable greater processing performance and a greener computing alternative. The Mitrion Virtual Processor, a massively fine-grain parallel and fully hardware adaptable processor design, allows pure software programming of FPGAs, eliminating the need for circuit design skills. This makes supercomputing performance accessible to an entire new market of scientists and developers.

Mitrionics’ customers are focused on adopting hybrid computing architectures to meet the exponential rise of compute requirements without adding additional watts to the computer system. For more information, visit the company Web site at www.mitrionics.com or email info@mitrionics.com.
