One Stop Systems Announces PCI Express (PCIe) over cable Gen3 Products

ESCONDIDO, Calif., November 10, 2011 – One Stop Systems, Inc. (OSS), a leader in PCIe over cable expansion and custom computing solutions announces four new PCIe Gen 3 products operating at 8Gb/s per lane or 64Gb/s for PCIe x8 and 128Gb/s for PCIe x16 products. Announced today are two switch-based cable adapters, a PCIe x16 adapter that contains a single x16 cable connector and a PCIe x8 adapter that connects either two or four PCIe end points. Also announced are two new Gen 3 expansion enclosures, a 1U enclosure capable of supporting two Gen 3 GPU’s and a 2U enclosure that supports up to four Gen 3 GPU’s.

“One Stop Systems continues to lead the market in depth and breadth of product with the introduction of our Gen 3 product line,” says Steve Cooper, CEO.  “Having been first-to-market with PCIe over cable adapters, today we are first-to-market with two innovative, switch-based cable adapters. Both adapters can be used universally in both I/O expansion and networking applications. The switch-based boards will provide much better signal integrity at the higher throughputs over re-driver based boards. They can also be field-programmable from host to target, allowing the same board to be purchased for both applications.  OSS also continues to lead the market in PCIe expansion enclosures designed to support the latest Gen 3 GPU’s.”

PCIe x16 Gen 3 cable adapter

The PCIe x16 Gen 3 cable adapter is a half-height, half-length PCIe card with a x16 edge connector and a x16 cable connector. The PLX 8733 Gen 3 switch has an NT port, allowing it to be used in networking applications between two PC’s as well as in I/O applications from a host server cabled to a downstream end point. It’s also equipped with an internal DMA controller and spread spectrum clocking isolation (SSC). This cable adapter has the added benefit of operating in both the host and target modes with a field-programmable switch setting. The PCIe x16 Gen 3 cable adapter (OSS-HIB38-x16-H/T) lists for USD$995 and is available in December 2011. OEM quantity pricing is available upon request.

PCIe x8 Gen 3 two and four-port cable adapters

The PCIe x8 Gen 3 dual and quad cable adapters are full-height, half length PCIe cards that can be used in I/O expansion and networking applications. The two-port board has one PCIe x16 edge connector and two PCIe x8 cable connectors on the slot cover. The switch is field-programmable to allow the different ports to receive or transmit data. Therefore, in an I/O expansion application, the three-port card can receive data from one server and transmit it to two I/O points. In the networking application, the ports can be set to non-transparent (NT), allowing server-to-server communication. The four-port card consists of the two-port card with two cable connectors and a mezzanine card with two more cable connectors. This card supports communication between five servers with the addition of the OSS ExpressNet driver installed on each server. It can also be used in I/O expansion applications installed in a host server and cabled to four downstream end points. The PCIe x8 Gen 3 dual cable adapter lists for USD$1,595 and is available in Q1, 2012. PCIe x8 Gen 3 quad cable adapter lists for USD$2,495 and is also available in Q1, 2012.

1U and 2U Gen 3 expansion enclosures

In addition, OSS is announcing its latest 1U and 2U Gen 3 expansion enclosures. These enclosures are specifically designed to support high power-consuming Gen 3 GPU’s with each slot operating at 128Gb/s. The 1U enclosure supports either two double-wide or four single-wide cards and the 2U supports either four double-wide or eight single-wide cards. The expansion enclosures cable to a host server through the PCIe x16 Gen 3 cable adapter which installs in the host server’s x16 slot. The 1U enclosure has a single x16 connection to a server (OSS-PCIe3-ENCL-EXP-1U-2) and lists for USD$2,395. The 2U enclosure supports four GPU’s with one x16 connection (OSS-PCIe3-ENCL-EXP-2U-4-1) and lists for USD$895. The 2U supporting four GPU’s with two x16 cable connections to the host server(s) (OSS-PCIe3-ENCL-EXP-2U-4-2) lists for USD$3,895. All units are available in Q1, 2012.
