Green Hills Software to Present and Exhibit at the ARM Technology Conference 2011 in Santa Clara, CA

Topic:  Embedded IPv6 – Now is the time
Track:  Networking and Connectivity, Location 207

Synopsis:  Embedded systems, from mobile devices to low powered sensor networks, are becoming new members of the “Internet of Things,” adding features such as field upgrade, remote management, and application downloads. The growth of these new devices adds further pressure to the nearly exhausted IPv4 address space. New cellular networks protocols, such as LTE, and personal area network protocols, such as 6LoWPAN, have IPv6 at their core in order to support this increasingly interconnected world. This class starts by talking about the reasons for the growth in IPv6 interest and customer requirements over the last year. It talks about the technical details of IPv6 in relation to traditional IPv4 networking. It then explores how to add and support IPv6 at the system level and at the application level.

Yet despite the fact that developers spend 80% of their time debugging code, relatively little attention is paid to debugging. This talk goes over a number of top techniques in how to get to the bottom of problems using a modern debugger aided by ARM’s CoreSight technology. Design techniques to make debugging easier are also discussed.

Synopsis:  While C and C++ are suitable for most embedded applications, a few things are still left to assembly. Whether it is board bring-up, signal processing, or simply a rare bit of code that isn’t well expressed in C, the need for assembly code never seems to go away entirely. Don’t fret! While assembly code is inherently more error prone than C, some proper coding techniques can minimize the possibility of making mistakes.

Synopsis:  With ineffective programming, even a perfect compiler cannot generate efficient code. This presentation will focus on the hows and whys of programming with today’s modern ARM compilers and how to get good performance out of them. Examples will be given to illustrate how simple source code transformations can result in big savings. The talk will cover choice of data types, variable scopes, the restrict keyword, floating-point arithmetic, assembly statements, packing, loop optimizations, and volatile memory.

Synopsis:  Enterprise mobility is driving demand for portable devices that can simultaneously support personal and enterprise use. Users have strong preferences and loathe carrying two phones.
