Gresham Powers in with 650W 6U cPCI

Gresham Power Electronics, the Salisbury based MIL and Commercial power conversion specialist, has increased the output power of their already class leading 6U Compact PCI power supply to a mighty 650W.

“All of our products are under continuous development to ensure they stay at the forefront of technology.” Says Jake Moir, Managing Director of Gresham Power Electronics; “Our 6U CompactPCI power supply has always offered leading edge performance and with the new model providing 650 watts of output power we believe we now have the market leading product and may well have reached the limit of the current topology.”

Moir continues; “With growing sales and efficient manufacturing processes our 650 watt compact PCI power supply is competitively priced against other manufacturer’s 400 to 550 watt units allowing our customers to reduce their vendor list and inventory. This reduces costs, simplifies system assembly and service support. Having 650 watts of power available in less demanding applications can also increase system reliability and protect against load power surges. Our new 650 watt compact PCI offers designers up to 50% of additional bonus power, at no extra cost.”

Applications for 6U cPCI footprint systems are growing rapidly and the new 650W cPCI-6U-650 from Gresham has been developed to respond to growing market demands for ever increasing power without sacrificing rack space.

The Gresham cPCI-6U-650 is fully compliant with the PICMG® 2.11 power interface specification, incorporate the standard Positronic 47-pin connector and offer hot-swap, N+1 redundant connection and active load current share.

The cPCI-6U-650 power supply features a 90–264VAC universal AC input voltage with active power factor correction, or a DC input covering a range from 36 –72VDC. Standard output voltages are 5V/80A +3.3V/70A +12V/7A -12V/1.5A and custom variants are possible. All models have a monitor and control (M&C) system based on an intelligent I2C bus. This system provides comprehensive remote status monitoring and control functionalities

Full use of advanced component and circuit technologies, including synchronous rectification, low profile transformers and SMT components ensure very high efficiency and power density. The innovative design uses two output converters in parallel, one for the +3.3V and the other for the +5V. This ensures maximum flexibility when determining load requirements for each output enabling full load currents to be drawn.

The Gresham cPCI-6U-650 Compact PCI power supply features advanced status and control functions including remote inhibit, output fail alarm, over temperature warning, output remote sense, single wire current share and front panel LEDs indicate outputs OK and any fault condition.

The cPCI-6U-650 is RoHS compliant, has full international safety agency approvals including UL/cUL60950,  CE Mark (LVD) and EN55022 Level A. Operating temperature range is -5C to +55°C with de-rating at 2.5%/°C up to +70°C, cooling requirements are 400LFM of airflow and MTBF is calculated as >400,000 Hours per Belcore 332 issue 6.

Gresham Power compactPCI products are suitable for broadcast systems, advanced multi-media applications and industrial, communications. Gresham Power Electronics also manufactures a complete range of OEM power supplies, hot-swap power shelves and products for telecoms, medical, industrial and commercial applications as well as static frequency converters, DC UPS, distributed power systems and DC:AC inverters for Naval Defence systems.
