USB Made Easy with Workshops from Avnet Electronics Marketing and NXP

PHOENIX—June 21, 2011 — Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas, a business region of Avnet, Inc. (NYSE: AVT), has teamed up with NXP, and today announced the launch of its latest Speedway Design Workshop™, USB Made Easy. Featuring hands-on labs with Avnet’s team of field application engineers (FAEs), USB Made Easy teaches designers how to develop USB applications based on NXP’s fully scalable Cortex™-M USB portfolio. These Speedways begin in July and are offered in multiple cities across the United States. Registration is $99.00 and space is limited. To register, visit: www.em.avnet.com/usbmadeeasy.

Featuring NXP’s low cost LPCXpresso™ development platform, this course will show how NXP microcontrollers are making the task of developing USB enabled devices faster and speeding time to market. The LPCXpresso labs will be focused on the Cortex-M0™ LPC11U00 and pin-to-pin compatible Cortex-M3™ LPC1300 microcontroller series. The LPC11U00 is the latest addition to the Cortex-M0 family, featuring a highly configurable, full speed USB 2.0 device controller; bringing unparalleled design flexibility and reliable USB connectivity for consumer electronics and mobile devices.

In addition to the technical guidance engineers need to get their USB designs off and running, attendees of this Speedway will also receive:

  • LPCXpresso LPC11U00;
  • LPCXpresso LPC1300 Baseboard for LPCXpresso;
  • Free 128K code size limited ‘C’ compiler;
  • Printed lab handouts;
  • And continental breakfast and lunch.

“We are thrilled to partner with Avnet to bring this Speedway training to our mutual customers,” said Shelley Carpenter, marketing manager for microcontrollers at NXP Semiconductor. “USB is quickly becoming the main ‘communication protocol of choice’ for most applications. This training shows customers how easy it truly is to implement USB in their solutions with NXP’s technology.”

“Avnet’s technical team is dedicated to providing industry-leading training opportunities for our customers, as part of our continued commitment to design-chain services,” said Jim Carver, technology director for Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas. “Teaching engineers how to implement the latest microcontroller technology from NXP will allow them to rapidly and reliably develop USB connected products that meet the demands of tomorrow’s products, today.”
