Airspan Selects Cavium Networks OCTEON(R) Processors to Power Its Next Generation 4G LTE Products

Cavium Networks (NASDAQ: CAVM), a leading provider of semiconductor products that enable intelligent processing for networking, communications, and the digital home, today announced that Airspan, a leading provider of broadband wireless access networks, has selected Cavium Networks to power its AirSynergy, AirHarmony, Air4G line of products for 4G multi-platform networks. The new line of products leverages Cavium’s OCTEON® multi-core processors, which are designed to accelerate Layer 2 to Layer 7 processing for wireless networks, to address the demands of 4G network carriers and operators as well as a variety of vertical markets such as Smart Grids, Public Safety and Transportation. The low power consumption of OCTEON has enabled delivering products to service even rural areas that are required to be powered by Solar cells.

Cavium is showcasing Airspan’s AirSynergy Pico Base Station with integrated self-backhaul and relay in Hall 2, booth 2C05 at the Mobile World Congress February 14 – 17 in Barcelona, Spain.

The OCTEON processor family consists of industry’s broadest and highest performance general purpose multi-core MIPS64 based processors ranging from 1 to 32 cores on a single chip with integrated networking interfaces with industry leading hardware acceleration for packet processing, quality of service, TCP, Security, compression / decompression and deep packet inspection (DPI).
