Strategic Test announces World’s first Freescale i.MX53 processor DIMM module

Woburn, USA –  February 4, 2011. Strategic Test is introducing the TX53 Computer on Module – a further addition to its CoM family based on Freescale’s multimedia processors. The brand new module integrates the high-performance and energy-efficient ARM Cortex™ A8-based Freescale multimedia processor i.MX53 with 1 GHz clock speed and enhances Strategic’s module family as its most powerful addition. Thanks to the i.MX53’s support of multi-standard-video with up to 1080p, the module is ideal for deployment in embedded applications with high performance demands on graphic, video and visualization. 

Although having dimensions of just 67.6 x 31 x 4.2 mm (2.6” x 1.2” x 0.16”) the TX53 boosts a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port with IEEE1588 support, two High Speed USB 2.0 ports, along with two cameras and two CAN interfaces. It is furthermore equipped with an LCD controller with up to 1600 x 1200 and a NEON SIMD Media Accelerator. The processor also integrates a hardware graphic accelerator, which supports OpenGL ES 2.0 and Open VG 1.1. As an option the module is available with a dual LVDS display interface. Up to 2 gigabytes of memory is a unique feature of this compact, small, sized module and goes to make the TX53 an excellent choice for data-intensive applications or for devices with Android as an operating system. 

For the TX53 module, Strategic sees the target applications and markets in, for example, security and surveillance, for digital signage, Point of Sales and On The Job tasks along with automotive and test systems which require a great deal of computing power and also high-end warning systems which require a significant amount of visualization. 

The Strategic Development Kit 5 provides developers with a high performance environment featuring a large number of hardware connections which enables them to concentrate on their individual application requirements and thus save time and costs. 

The Freescale Longevity Program guarantees that the TX53, as all the other Strategic TX modules, has a long-term availability of at least 7 years. 

The TX53 module and the development environment will become available in Q2 / 2011. The TX53 module is priced at $179 (129 Euros) with discounts for higher volumes. The Development Kit-5 (containing the baseboard, a module, the Linux BSP source code and the CE binaries) is priced at $1490 (999 Euro).
