Low cost enclosed AC/DC power supplies suit industrial applications

XP Power announced today the availability of its LCL series of single output chassis mount enclosed AC/DC power supplies. The low cost range comprises 150, 300 and 500 Watt models and provides an industry leading typical efficiency of 90% at full load. The 150 Watt units are convection cooled while the others benefit from an integral cooling fan.  These self-contained units require no additional forced airflow. All units come with screw terminals and self-retaining guards.

The LCL series accepts the full universal input voltage of 85 VAC to 264 VAC without the need for selector switches. Unlike many other units in the … Read More → "Low cost enclosed AC/DC power supplies suit industrial applications"

A New Laser Vision

I was going to write about programming FPGAs this week, but instead, I am going to rave about a wonderful group of electronics engineers. I don’t know their names or even which the companies they work for, but they have transformed my life.

Unless you wear glasses, it is difficult to understand what a regular irritation and nuisance they are. You see the world constantly as though looking through a window, complete with a frame around it. They steam up, and in rain … Read More → "A New Laser Vision"

Hardware Design Management Heats Up

When you go to one of the major shows like DAC, you expect to pick up on whatever the latest buzz is. There’s always a topic or two that is on the tip of everyone’s lips, the subject of whispers and gossip and speculation, involving contestants in a “who-can-outshout or -out-outrageous the other guy” competition in a shameless attempt to garner our uninterrupted gaze.

And, in any given year, you can probably guess what the flavors of the year are likely to be. Generally they are a) something completely … Read More → "Hardware Design Management Heats Up"
