Savi Challenges You to Imagine the Best Wireless Applications

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Nov. 1, 2010 /PRNewswire/ — Savi Technology, a Lockheed Martin company (NYSE: LMT) and leading provider of wireless solutions to manage smart assets, today announced Project Volcano, an industry wide challenge for developers to explode onto the scene and create new ways that everyone can benefit from wireless technology.  The best ideas will be awarded with Savi Developer Tools leveraging best-of-breed software and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) hardware to build solutions, which could range from tracking your missing car keys or children by cell phone to remotely monitoring the moisture in your lawn, smog indexes or electricity consumed in a facility.

Project Volcano calls on all creative developers to submit their ideas on extending applications for long-range, low-power solutions based on the ISO 18000-7 standard for active, battery-powered RFID.  Individuals and teams from industry or academia are encouraged to submit ideas for use cases that go beyond today’s primary application of such technology to automatically monitor the location, security and condition of RFID-tagged assets moving throughout the global supply chain.

“When we launched the Savi Developer Program in June, we were overwhelmed by interest from people registering to gain access to the component technologies,” said Paul Krakow, Savi Technology’s director of business development.  “Momentum has grown around the DASH7 Alliance, culminating in what we hope will be an explosion of creativity around how this technology can drastically improve operational productivity and quality of life.”  (DASH7 is a nonprofit, multi-industry consortium promoting technology solutions based on the ISO 18000-7 standard.)

Project Volcano will run until Dec. 15.  A panel of judges from Savi Technology’s leadership will evaluate the best ideas based on creativity, practical real-world scenarios and end-user benefits.   All that is required for Project Volcano is a written 100-word proposal after firstregistering here.

To encourage collaboration between contestants, Savi will award Spot Prizes periodically throughout the contest to participants who provide the best suggestions to improve each other’s ideas.  Spot Prize winners will receive the SMR-650B OEM Reader Board, which is a fully functional ISO 18000-7 reader board that can be built into products or systems to interact with ISO 18000-7 RFID tags from distances of more than 200 feet.  A Grand Prize will be awarded for the best overall idea.  The Grand Prize will include One Year Subscription to the SmartChain Developer Platform, One SMR-650B OEM Reader Board, and the brand new OEM Tag Design Kit, which includes all of the equipment necessary to build an ISO 18000-7 tag with Savi’s new OEM Tag Module.

Project Volcano follows Savi Technology’s launch in June of the Savi Developer Program, which provides RFID hardware and software tools to developers to leverage for building their own market applications.  These tools, which can be ordered online, include Savi Web Service APIs (Application Program Interfaces), Savi SmartChain Adaptive Applications, and Savi RFID Hardware Components.  For more information on Savi Developer Tools, go to www.savi.com/developer/.

The Savi Developer Program makes it easy for other RFID developers to embed standards-based technology either as complete products or component parts within a full solution to diverse markets, whether it’s tracking automotive parts for assembly, food and beverages moving through the supply chain or pharmaceutical goods in a distribution center.

Savi Technology provides Smart Asset Management solutions and services for public sector and commercial supply chains worldwide. Savi SmartChain® enterprise-level software leverages low-power wireless sensor networks for real-time information to enhance balance sheets by optimizing the operational management, effectiveness, security, and profitable return of assets either in-transit or at rest. SmartChain turns data from all types of Automatic Identification and Data Capture technologies, including DASH7 Radio Frequency Identification, into actionable information that is valued from the physical edge of operations to the board room. Quickly and accurately identify inter-domain leakage issues in IC designs

Sponsored by Siemens Digital Industries Software

Power domain leakage is a major IC reliability issue, often missed by traditional tools. This white paper describes challenges of identifying leakage, types of false results, and presents Siemens EDA’s Insight Analyzer. The tool proactively finds true leakage paths, filters out false positives, and helps circuit designers quickly fix risks—enabling more robust, reliable chip designs. With detailed, context-aware analysis, designers save time and improve silicon quality.
