SIE Computing Solutions Unveils 3U OpenVPX Backplane

Brockton, MA – October 25, 2010 – SIE Computing Solutions, Inc., a provider of rugged electronic systems for mission-critical and performance-critical embedded computing platforms deployed in harsh environments, today reaffirmed its commitment to OpenVPX with a new 3U OpenVPX backplane designed for board-agnostic system design and integration.

Designed to form a flexible standard design that allows for multiple vendor boards and other system components without sacrificing interoperability, SIE’s new OpenVPX backplane is a centralized 6-slot design that provides maximum flexibility for both customization and varied standardization between OpenVPX profiles.  Based on a ratified profile that addresses the centralized switching topology increasingly important to military and defense applications, the new backplane is a core design foundation developed to meet the requirements of multiple designs with minimal adjustments for customers.

“As a board-agnostic company that is committed to open architectures, SIE is excited to incorporate OpenVPX into our world-class product line, as it will enable greater interoperability across the entire industry,” said Chris Boutilier, president and CEO of SIE Computing Solutions. “SIE is actively monitoring new profiles as they are introduced in order to provide products with the utmost in flexibility, and our new 3U OpenVPX backplane provides us with a solid design foundation to create both standard and custom solutions very efficiently to suit any customer need.”

The 3U OpenVPX backplane utilizes the BKP3-CEN06-15.2.2-3 profile ratified by VITA 65 and is available now.  The highly configurable backplane offers maximum bandwidth in a compact size.

A member of VITA, SIE Computing Solutions is a vertically integrated company with full-service capabilities from concept through manufacturing.  The company already provides multiple products, including backplanes and ATRs, for the VPX architecture, and has committed to systematic product development under ratified OpenVPX slot and backplane profiles.

A one-year limited warranty is standard with the product, and an extended warranty is also available.
