Algotronix announces an XTS-AES IP core for storage applications

Algotronix Ltd., Edinburgh, UK announces the availability of an XTS-AES core to meet the NIST SP800-38E recommendation published in January 2010 and the IEEE 1619-2007 standard.

The IP core provides encryption for data storage applications and can be configured to exceed the demands of SATA 3.0 and USB 3.0, as well as smaller footprint configurations for less demanding requirements. The low-cost core features a hardware AES encryption solution that provides AES-128 or AES-256 for hard drives or memory sticks.

“As a design services company, we need the lowest cost core with outstanding support from the vendor”, said Dr. Patrick Hung, CEO and founder of CPO Technologies Corporation based in Santa Clara, CA. “Algotronix has optimised the core for the smallest footprint in our SoC design to provide USB 3.0 performance at the lowest total cost of ownership”.

Data storage encryption is based on the XTS mode of AES. The algorithm includes a Tweakable encryption technique to provide confidentiality with no expansion of data size. This ensures that identical data will be stored as different patterns in each sector of the storage medium. The core supports all the popular FPGA families or ASIC technology, and the IP is supplied as source code, allowing customers to select from different modes and parameterise the performance. The core includes a testbench implementing the XTS Verification System used for NIST validation.

Automation Anywhere Launches Testing Anywhere 6.5

SAN JOSE, CA–(Marketwire – July 13, 2010) – Automation Anywhere (www.AutomationAnywhere.com), a global leader in automation software, today announced the newest version of Testing Anywhere. Testing Anywhere first launched in December, 2009 and is being adopted by large system integrators and other software development teams looking for significantly better efficiencies and quality around automated software testing.

“We’ve been using Testing Anywhere’s new Object Avatar and believe there is nothing else like it in the market today. It is changing the way we do our application testing,” Stephen Clancy, QATools Development of Healthways. “We found that using Object Avatar for test automation significantly reduces the amount of time we spend in updating and creating scripts. This is a great time saver. The global repository should help keep us all on the same page.”

“One of the testing challenges our customers have repeatedly talked about is the time and energy it takes to test and re-test objects with live applications — a process that can take days and weeks with larger, complicated live applications,” said Mihir Shukla, co-founder and CEO of Automation Anywhere. “We took a step back and came up with an innovative approach that we think will change the way people conduct their application testing. Instead of testing the live application, we create a repository of application Object Avatars that allow for faster, more efficient automated testing.”

Introducing Object Avatar

Testing Anywhere’s Object Avatar is a new object-based testing tool that significantly reduces development and modification time. This approach means users don’t have to re-record test cases with each object change and there is no need to access a live application to create or modify test cases.

Object Avatar
1) Captures each object and application screen in a test case in the form of an Object Avatar
2) Accesses these Object Avatars to create and modify tests without access to the live application
3) Reduces development and modification times with constant access to live objects

Anybody involved in software testing can learn more about Testing Anywhere 6.5 here:http://www.automationanywhere.com/Testing/products/automated-testing-anywhere.htm

Benefits of Object Avatar:

  • Power: After a user creates an Object Avatar and stores it on the server in the Object Avatar Repository the Object Avatar can be reused by all of your testers who are authorized to have access to the Object Avatar Repository. Object Avatars can be used over and over to created many different kinds of tests. Depending on the complexity of your applications, you may be able to build test cases 2, 3 or even 4 times faster than you can with your current testing software.
  • Reliability: A lot of mistakes are eliminated when your testers are working with the same set of Object Avatars across all test cases. For example, if you have 16 testers working with a complex application, each of them may need to enter data in three or four screens before they drill down to the screens that they are actually going to test. One tester may make a mistake entering the data, another tester may be using an incorrect version of the browser, while still another tester may have configured the application settings incorrectly.
  • Security: As with other tests that can be created with Testing Anywhere, tests created with Object Avatars can be encrypted and locked. Access rights to tests that have been encrypted and locked are restricted to those who have been granted authorization with an appropriate username and password.

Automation Anywhere, @testinganywhere on Twitter, encourages a discussion about this innovative approach. Use #ObjectAvatars to engage and monitor the conversation about this novel approach.

Wolfson delivers world-class audio ADCs in small packages

Edinburgh, UK, July 14, 2010 – Wolfson Microelectronics plc has today announced the introduction of its latest analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), the WM8788 and WM8789, both of which deliver world-class audio to leading home entertainment applications.

As the latest additions to Wolfson’s compelling range of leading audio devices, both the WM8788 and WM8789 are the highest performing stereo audio ADCs available in small 16-pin packages and deliver crystal clear audio which dramatically improves the audio performance of LCD televisions, DVD players and recorders, Blu-ray players and set-top box applications.

Both high performance ADCs are powered from a single 3.3V supply rail and feature a pair of stereo analog audio inputs for capturing line level inputs in the 1 Vrms range with SNR performance of 106 dB SNR and 93 dB of THD+N. Input signals greater than 1Vrms are captured by configuring external resistors. Additionally, the WM8789 features an extra pair of stereo analog inputs.

The hi-fi ADCs output 16-, 20- or 24-bit stereo data on the digital audio interface and operate in both master and slave modes. Both devices feature a digital high-pass filter for noise and DC offset removal and also supports audio sample rates from 8 kHz to 192 kHz, while master clock ratios of 128 fs up to 768 fs are possible (fs = sample rate).

David Brown, Wolfson’s Product Line Manager for Audio Amplifiers and Converters, said: “We are leaders in delivering crystal clear world-class audio to the consumer electronics market, and the WM8788 and WM8789 are ideal for many of the world’s leading home entertainment applications.”

Availability

The WM8788 and the WM8789 are both available for sampling now in 16-pin TSSOP packages, priced at $1.30 in 1K volume.

WM8788 and WM8789 customer evaluation boards are available to aid device evaluation and development.
