Bluespec High-Level Synthesis Toolset is Selected by Fujitsu

Waltham, Mass. – June 10, 2010 – Bluespec Inc. announced today that the Bluespec high-level synthesis toolset for development of system-on-a-chip (SoC) designs has been selected by Fujitsu Limited. It will be used for the research and design of many core processors for hardware processing embedded in the server. The project is called “Leading research for many core processors”*. Fujitsu had been commissioned by the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) of Japan.

“We recognized that we had reached the limit of conventional RTL-based design for the development of the processor interconnect networks of many-core processors with 32, 48, or 64 cores, due to the exponential growth of the total combination and amount of communication patterns with these high numbers of cores.” said Moriyuki Takamura, Director of Enterprise Server Business Unit at Fujitsu Limited. “Even if we automate the whole processor design process from the high-level description to implementation by using SystemC, the description language for verification, it is still very difficult to realize the required latency and silicon size. Bluespec provides us a high-level of abstraction that enables us to achieve these objectives. Not limited to many-core processors, we can expect more benefits from using Bluespec in the development of LSIs for consumer and industrial equipment.”

“We are extremely pleased that Fujitsu’s enterprise server team chose Bluespec for the development of multiple core architectures,” said Charlie Hauck, chief executive officer of Bluespec, Inc. “We see more and more customers impeded by the inability of SystemC to synthesize to gates. Bluespec’s synthesizable modeling unconditionally closes that gap.”

* “Leading research for many core processors”:  It is research of futuristic technology to mount many core processors on LSI. The technology is used for saving energy and electric power.

About Bluespec

Bluespec is The Synthesizable Modeling Company™. With Bluespec, models and test benches can be synthesized along with legacy IP to employ emulation much earlier for modeling, verification and early software development. Bluespec makes emulation much easier, more affordable, and deployable from concept to volume silicon. With the only solutions built on atomic transactions, proven technology for managing and simplifying large-scale hardware concurrency, Bluespec provides the only general-purpose, high-level synthesis toolset for any use model (models, testbenches, production IP) and design type (datapath, control, interconnect).
