Atmel AT90SC28880RCFV Secure Microcontroller

San Jose, CA, June 1, 2010 – Atmel® Corporation (Nasdaq: ATML), a leader in microcontroller and touch solutions, today announced that FIME, an external and independent third party laboratory, has certified the Atmel AT90SC28880RCFV secure microcontroller (MCU). This secure MCU is now compliant with ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) Radio Frequency (RF) Specifications and ISO 14443 RF. These reports are available for customers upon request.

Atmel’s product successfully passed FIME’s demanding test plan for ISO 14443 conformity (a test plan that not only covers 10373-6 test plan for PICCs but goes beyond that scope to better ensure conformity to the 14443 specifications). In addition, an extended test session at FIME laboratory shows up to 100 percent interoperability with a list of 32 readers during banking evaluation.

“The FIME reports further illustrate that Atmel satisfies all technical requirements for e-Passport and ID applications. The Atmel AT90SC28880RCFV chip provides extended RF capabilities, excellent computational performance and low-power consumption to allow up to 30 MIPS and 1024 RSA computations in 80 ms at 1.5 A/m,” said Jean-Pierre Enguent, application manager for contactless products, Atmel Corporation. “The product targets applications including Extended Access Control within e-Passport programs and governmental ID cards. In addition, the Atmel secureAVR®-based microcontroller is designed to be Common Criteria EAL5+ certified.”

FIME is a trusted laboratory worldwide recognized for its expertise in component evaluation related to contactless applications.
