Samtec Demonstrates High-Speed Serial Channels Operating at 25.78 Gbps Error Free Using Xilinx Virtex UltraScale FPGA

Routing the datapath for these large data rates on PCBs remains a challenge due to signal integrity issues associated with long trace lengths. Samtec’s FireFly™ Micro Flyover System™ was developed for system architects and PCBs designers who are adopting various fiber optic solutions to route signals over PCBs instead of through them. FireFly™ is the first interconnect system that gives designers a choice of using either micro footprint optical or copper interconnects at data rates up to 28 Gbps. This enables an upgrade path from electrical to optical FireFly using the same PCB connector system.

“As an increasing number of ICs support data rates up to 28Gbps and beyond, Samtec’s FireFly™ Micro Flyover System™ provides engineers a proven and tested mid-board interconnect solution,” Matt Burns, Technical Marketing Manager at Samtec, said. “FireFly™ offers unparalleled flexibility with either copper or active optical cable assembly options while leveraging the same PCB connector footprint. Samtec’s cable and optical product specialists can identify the right solution for any customer.”

Samtec and their partners are developing multiple solutions demonstrating the high-speed capabilities of the FireFly™ Micro Flyover System™. In 2016, Samtec will be releasing other FireFly™ solutions operating at data rates up to 28 Gbps. To learn more about these developments, please sign-up for the Samtec blog.

Electrical Connectors for Hermetically Sealed Applications
Sponsored by Mouser Electronics and Bel
Many hermetic chambers today require electrical pathways to provide internal equipment with power, data or signals, or to receive data and signals from equipment within the chamber. In this episode of Chalk Talk, Amelia Dalton and Brad Taras from Cinch Connectivity Solutions explore the role that seals and connectors play in the performance of hermetic chambers. They examine the methodologies to determine hermetic seal leaks, the benefits of epoxy hermetic seals, and how Cinch Connectivity’s epoxy-based seals and hermetic connectors can add value to your next design.
