Express Logic’s X-Ware™ Eases IoT Development

San Diego, CA, July 29, 2014 – Express Logic, Inc., the worldwide leader in royalty-free real-time operating systems (RTOSes), introduces X-Ware™, an integrated, optimized, comprehensive middleware solution that provides a solid foundation for Internet of Things (IoT) development. X-Ware consists of Express Logic’s ThreadX RTOS and its extensive middleware offerings of FileX, NetX, NetX Duo, USBX, GUIX, GUIX Studio, and TraceX. Together, they deliver all that’s needed for embedded systems to meet the functional and usability requirements of IoT devices.

Although Express Logic’s X-Ware components can operate individually, they have been tightly integrated with the ThreadX RTOS to achieve optimum performance. Express Logic has integrated all of its middleware to work together offering peak performance and minimal footprint. All of the X-Ware components can be used in IoT devices that require a graphical user interface, high-speed networking, USB capability, a file system, and an RTOS.

The Internet-of-Things has evolved over the past 10 years to incorporate billions of intelligent, connected devices that are expected to continue to grow substantially into the next decade. IoT devices today typically offer attractive Graphical User Interfaces (GUIs) and high-speed IPv6 networking. This shift has created a demand for high-performance software building blocks that can facilitate the rapid development of new devices with varied functionality. From handheld entertainment systems and wearable devices to implanted medical technology, IoT facilitates the flow of communications and information to deliver previously unachievable automation and remote control of computerized devices.

Such benefits require significant software development activity, and device manufacturers need a way to develop that software economically while bringing the resulting products to market quickly. The “Build vs. Buy” paradigm has shifted strongly towards “buy”, in the interest of meeting time-to-market objectives—a critical objective for companies meeting the tight ROI demands of verticals such as automotive, industrial control, medical, and smart energy where IoT is dominant.

Over the 20 years since their introduction, Express Logic’s ThreadX RTOS and middleware have consistently provided developers with measurably faster time to market and more successful design results according to findings from Embedded Market Forecasters. Given the many IoT development challenges to deliver high performance with small-footprint devices, Express Logic’s unparalleled ease-of-use can significantly cut development time and cost. X-Ware delivers small footprint, high-performance, and unparalleled ease-of-use solutions for the IoT.

“Our X-Ware today powers many smartphones, medical devices, and industrial control equipment that have been integrated into the fundamental infrastructure of the IoT network,” commented William E. Lamie, CEO of Express Logic. “We’ve developed all of our X-Ware products in-house. Not only does this ensure that they are fully integrated, but we have been able to fine-tune performance to ensure that these tools can faciliate the responsive exchange of data needed for dynamic remote control. With an X-Ware foundation, IoT development is faster, more cost-effective, and free of the debug challenges that stop other hybrid solutions from being successful.”
