ProTek Devices Intros TVS Arrays for Board-Level Circuit Protection in Wireless, Telecom Equipment

TEMPE, Ariz. – July 28, 2014 – ProTek Devices has introduced a new family of multi-line low-capacitance (5pF) transient voltage suppressor (TVS) arrays that provide board-level circuit protection in applications including wireless and telecommunications equipment, customer premise equipment (CPE), T1/E1, and more.

The SMP6LLC05-2P – SMP6LLC12-2P series consist of three TVS array components offered with three varying minimum breakdown voltages. The SMP6LLC05-2P has a minimum breakdown voltage of 6.0 volts while the SMP6LLC6.5-2P and SMP6LLC12-2P provide minimum breakdown voltages of 7.2 and 13.3 volts, respectively. These transient voltage suppressors offer standard TTL and MOS bus line application circuit protection against electrostatic discharges (ESD), tertiary lightning, and switching transients. The series has a peak pulse power per line rating of 400 watts for a 10/1000 micro seconds wave shape and 3,900 watts peak pulse power per line for a typical 8/20 micro seconds wave shape. They also provide 100A (2/10 micro seconds), per Bellcore GR-1089 (intra building), and ITKU.20 peak pulse current at 40A (5/310 micro seconds).

These circuit protection devices also meet IEC standards requirements 61000-4-2 (ESD), 61000-4-4 for electrical fast transients (EFT), and 61000-4-5 (surge). They offer bidirectional configuration, to protect two bidirectional lines, and high surge capabilities. ProTek Devices’ SMP6LLC05-2P – SMP6LLC12-2P series are also RoHS and REACH compliant.

Key mechanical characteristics include a molded JEDEC SO-16 package with an approximate weight of only 0.15 grams. The parts have lead-free pure-tin plating (annealed) and a solder reflow temperature (pure-tin – Sn, 100) of 260 – 270 degrees Celsius. The flammability rating is UL 94V-0.

Pricing and Availability

ProTek Devices’ SMP6LLC05-2P – SMP6LLC12-2P TVS array series is now available in mass quantities. Pricing starts at around 40 cents per unit in minimum quantities of 1,000. Two different tape and reel sizes (16 mm) are offered, per EIA standard 481. A seven inch reel provides 1,000 units and a 13 inch reel comes with 2,500 units. A data sheet for the series can be download from the ProTek Devices website.
