TI introduces breakthrough motor control technology: InstaSPIN™-FOC motor control solution with FAST™ software encoder algorithm

Houston, TX (Feb. 26, 2013) – Motor control system designers can now concentrate on differentiating designs rather than spending weeks and months tuning their motor control systems.  With the new InstaSPIN™-FOC (field-oriented-control) solution from Texas Instruments Incorporated (TI) (NASDAQ: TXN), designers can now identify, tune and fully control (through variable speeds and loads) any type of three-phase, synchronous or asynchronous motor in five minutes or less. This new technology removes the need for a mechanical motor rotor sensor to reduce system costs and improves operation using TI’s new software … Read More → "TI introduces breakthrough motor control technology: InstaSPIN™-FOC motor control solution with FAST™ software encoder algorithm"

University of Rhode Island Researchers Use FPGAs to Help Amputees Sit, Stand and Climb stairs with “Smart” Artificial Legs

Kingston Rhode Island / Bellevue, Washington, 26 February 2013. URI and Impulse Accelerated Technologies (one of the project sponsors) publicized results from student research to improve the live-ability of artificial legs. In this research, students created a neurally controlled artificial leg that enabled users to command it wordlessly for common challenges.

It is everyone’s hope that electronically enhanced artificial legs can return as much “normal” mobility to amputees as possible. The challenges are extensive. In this focused effort, student Xiaorong Zhang under the guidance of Professor Qing Yang and Professor Helen Huang, used commonly available programmable computer chips called … Read More → "University of Rhode Island Researchers Use FPGAs to Help Amputees Sit, Stand and Climb stairs with “Smart” Artificial Legs"
