New AudioSmart Solution from Conexant Enhances Listening Experience from Built-In TV Speakers; LG First to Adopt

LAS VEGAS, NV–(Marketwired – Jan 6, 2016) – Audio is a critical component of, and often sets the tone for, the entire television viewing experience. Today, Conexant Systems, Inc.announced its new RoomAware Optimizer™ processing solution that delivers a drastically improved listening experience from the existing speakers in a TV. Part of the Conexant AudioSmart™ product family, the new solution has been adopted by LG Electronics for its 2016 lineup of OLED and UHD TVs. LG will call the feature ‘Magic Sound Tuning.’

When it comes to TV, the vast majority of consumers use the built-in speakers that come with their TVs. Without professional assistance, most consumers are not aware that TV audio can sound better. Through Magic Sound Tuning, LG TVs, with their Magic Remote, can automatically adapt speaker output to the room’s acoustics and the location of the TV in the room. This ability to intelligently adapt enables LG to provide a unique, customized audio experience without any specialized knowledge or additional effort by the end user.

No two rooms are alike — sounds are easily distorted depending on surrounding conditions, and there are several elements within a room that can produce unwanted effects on the listening experience. These effects are often not immediately obvious to consumers, who may not be aware that their speakers are capable of producing much better sound. Typical attempts to solve this problem may include moving the TV, adding physical treatments to a room, manually configuring the equalizer settings in the TV or hiring a professional installer.

RoomAware Optimizer is part of Conexant’s Contextual Awareness product portfolio. Conexant has leveraged its AudioSmart input and playback processing algorithms to create a suite of technologies that sense the context of the product and its surroundings to automatically optimize the end user experience. Magic Sound Tuning is a proprietary application that listens to a room and intelligently adapts the output from a TV’s speakers.

“We have a longstanding, strategic relationship with LG and we’re pleased that RoomAware Optimizer will be widely available in their new line of OLED and UHD TVs with the Magic Remote,” said Saleel Awsare, Conexant senior vice president and general manager. “RoomAware Optimizer is a new offering in our expanding AudioSmart portfolio of contextually aware products with more on the horizon.”

Key features include:

  • Automatically adapts playback processing to the room environment and TV location within the room
  • Little to no setup required by end consumer
  • No additional hardware cost other than the microphone already built into the Magic Remote
  • Playback sound can be tailored to the TV manufacturer’s choice, enabling a signature sound

Achieve Greater Design Flexibility and Reduce Costs with Chiplets

Sponsored by Keysight

Chiplets are a new way to build a system-on-chips (SoCs) to improve yields and reduce costs. It partitions the chip into discrete elements and connects them with a standardized interface, enabling designers to meet performance, efficiency, power, size, and cost challenges in the 5 / 6G, artificial intelligence (AI), and virtual reality (VR) era. This white paper will discuss the shift to chiplet adoption and Keysight EDA's implementation of the communication standard (UCIe) into the Keysight Advanced Design System (ADS).
