Stream and Extend Full HD Encoded Video over IP

Montreal, Canada, June 13, 2012 — Matrox Graphics Inc. today introduced Matrox Maevex Series, a new H.264-based encoder/decoder technology designed for a wide range of applications including digital signage, collaborative video walls, and security & surveillance. The Matrox Maevex video distribution platform offers one-to-one unicast or one-to-many multicast extension of H.264 encoded video over standard TCP/IP networks—via standard wired (CATx) and/or wireless (Wi-Fi) connectivity—to stream and display exceptional quality video at Full HD 1080p @60Hz. At InfoComm 2012 (booth #N1331), Matrox will provide live demonstrations of this technology, including a Matrox Maevex Encoder distributing multiple Full HD video streams to a network of Matrox Maevex Decoders. The Maevex Decoder unit will also be featured as a simple standalone digital signage appliance supporting full screen playback of locally-stored H.264 content.

The Matrox Maevex preview technology being displayed at InfoComm utilizes the H.264 standard to extend and distribute high-quality digital video—with support for Full HD 1080p and 1920×1200 @60Hz—and audio over standard IP infrastructures. Leveraging System-on-Chip (SoC) technology, Maevex provides high-processing performance that is optimized with dedicated H.264 encoding/decoding functionality while still providing superior processing capabilities for network management, USB enablement, and RS-232 communications. The SoC architecture also enables highly intelligent communication between connected network appliances for robust integrated hardware and software management of the Maevex devices. This allows the accompanying PowerStream software to offer remote system-operator control to conveniently schedule, monitor, update, and otherwise completely manage all hardware and content operations on the distribution network.

“With Maevex Series technology, Matrox will provide system integrators, installers, and end users with high-performance encoder/decoder solutions that simply and affordably allow for the extension of audio and video sources,” said Ron Berty, Business Development Manager, Matrox Graphics Inc. “The H.264 encoding/decoding platform provides highly optimized video and audio transmission over IP with minimal bandwidth consumption for unprecedented price-performance value. We plan on delivering this platform through a variety of Maevex-based solutions, beginning with an encoder/decoder set and a basic media player.”

Key Matrox Maevex features:

  • Extends video and audio over standard TCP/IP (LAN) networks
  • Employs H.264 video compression for Blu-ray quality video playback
  • Supports video resolutions up to 1080p @60Hz and graphics resolutions up to 1920×1200
  • Leverages standard CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6, CAT7 cabling and standard networking infrastructure and Wi-Fi technologies
  • Features a command & control software to remotely manage the distribution network
  • Includes user defined fine-tuning of codec and network bit rate
  • Utilizes a solid-state, energy-efficient design for high MTBF and long product life cycles

Availability

The Matrox Maevex Series is expected to be available in the CQ4 2012. For more information, visit www.matrox.com/graphics/maevex or contact graphics@matrox.com.
