ALi to Introduce Industry’s Most Cost Efficient STB Solutions for Global Market at CCBN 2012, Beijing

ALi Corporation, a leading Set-Top Box (STB) system-on-chip (SoC) solution provider, today announced the plan to demonstrate a complete collection of cost efficient STB solutions targeting global emerging markets at the upcoming 2012 CCBN, Beijing to be held on March 21st at booth 1B601. These include ALi’s first advanced CA-enabled Linux-based Hybrid STB SoCs, M3603 and M3383, ALi’s latest version of advanced security SoC, M3281, and ALi’s pioneer Network Media Processor, M3911, designed for IPTV/OTT STB.

ALi’s M3603, M3383, and M3281 are especially designed for cost sensitive Pay-TV operators who engage in large-scale analogue-to-digital migration in emerging countries such as Russia, India, Latin America, and others. M3911 is designed for OTT and IPTV STB clients who require compelling cost advantage, fast and seamless deployment, as well as efficient energy management for integration into Networking Media Players, OTT and IPTV STB.

Designed in a compact package size of 13x13mm, the ALi M3281 is a DVB-C SoC supporting J.83 Annex A/B/C and is integrated with QAM demodulator, standard definition MPEG2/H.264 decoder, TV encoder, and embedded CPU. In addition, M3281 is featured with an advanced security engine compliant with world leading CAS and thus provides superior hardware security for conditional access in Pay-TV set-top boxes. M3281 is also equipped with a USB2.0 host, enabling support for secure time-shift and PVR functions. The SIP version of M3281 with DRAM and flash memory is also supported.

According to Gartner, Pay-TV operators now face a real opportunity for market penetration and business differentiation depending on their ability to offer value-added services in their home networking services. Meanwhile, with broadband speed accelerating and video streaming reliability improving, some TV viewers who nonetheless remain in the FTA segment tend to also opt for OTT (Over-the-top) or Hybrid functionalities when purchasing new STB. Consequently, OTT and Hybrid STB are likely to take up a large share of the FTA market for their capability to deliver diverse and quality content to households.

Tony Chang, General Manager of ALi’s International Business Unit stated, “Pay-TV operators and OTT markets are ALi’s strategic focuses. Targeting to provide unparalleled solutions directed at Pay-TV and OTT markets, ALi strives to create supreme value for customers. We will continue to present the industry with extremely cost efficient SD and HD SoCs combining all the features that end consumers may possibly demand for, including features that are seen only in high-end Set-Top Boxes.”

ALi’s showcase at CCBN will additionally include a series of collections tailored to the Chinese domestic market, comprising the HD SoC of M3701C for HD ASO (Analogue switch off), advanced HD solution of M3701H offering two-way communications, and specialized HD platform of M3701M suited to the three-network convergence. ALi will also exhibit a range of new industry-leading chips including SD Cable basic model of M3202-C and M3381T focused on the DTMB segment.
