Unique Online Platform Will Enable Patent And Trademark Holders to Auction Products and Product Rights

Corporations, developers of new products and other holders of patents and trademarks will soon be able to offer their products or product rights through an online auction.

London IP firm IPR Connections™ (www.iprconnections.com) is launching later this year an online marketing platform which will be the first global provision of comprehensive information on intellectual property for owners of patents, trade marks, designs, domain names and new products.

This, says the founder of the company Roger Shashoua, will offer a much needed set of new services that will fill a current void in the international IP marketplace.

Shashoua has a 40 year experience in the international patent market but believes globalisation of the economy and the development of online services means the time is right in 2012 to launch a full web-based auction marketplace.

The untold potential that could be realised by bridging the gap between patentee and industry and the need for a specialised company in the field to tap this highly lucrative market was identified by Shashoua in 1972 when he first entered the patent market.

IPR Connections™ will bridge the long standing gap between patentee and industry. Shashoua says he expects it to “to assist fundamentally how inventors, companies, research institutes and other holders of IP, or their attorneys and agents to assign and licence, sell or acquire IP rights worldwide”.

Shashoua said: “IPR Connections™ aims to provide a direct route for corporations, developers of new products and other holders of patents and trademarks to connect through licenses with partners worldwide. Its objective is to be the first organisation in the new product and technology transfer field to provide globally comprehensive information on intellectual property.”

This, he said, will lead to the provision of a range of services to access, sell, licence or buy patents or new product rights.

According to Shashoua, by 2020 approximately £1.3 trillion more will be spent on new technology, patents, new products and processes, which he described as “the life blood of corporate growth and development”.

“Companies worldwide are now seeking to monetise their patent portfolio as part of their corporate plans and funding,” said Shashoua. “These activities provide a fertile market for registration and offers for sale or licence through IPR Connections™.

The development of the internet and web-based tools and processes has, stressed Shashoua, enabled the functions of IP application and registration and the transfer of information to be conducted electronically so that the kinds of service envisaged forty years ago can now be provided securely with automated administration.

He added: “Although the global IP market has grown exponentially, it is still very fragmented and localised. IPR Connections™ will create a global comprehensive service that can facilitate the sale, licensing or assignment of patents granted or pending, new products and trademarks.”

The founders bring a wide range of commercial experience and financial expertise to the venture and have a deep knowledge of the diverse practices in the current fragmented management of IP. They have successfully concluded licensing agreements and joint ventures with multi-million dollar organisations in the UK, throughout Europe and in the emerging markets of China, India and Russia. Through identifying the commercial opportunity for IPR Connections™ services in the global market today the founders have developed the online model and processes for delivery via the Internet.
