ALi Strengthens Its Focus on Latin American Market

Taipei, Taiwan, July 15, 2011 — ALi Corporation, a leading Set-Top Box (STB) system-on-chip (SoC) solution provider, announced today at Brazil’s major pay-TV trade show ABTA the latest solution for combination dvb-S2 / ISDB-T customized for Latin America. These customer STBs integrate the latest ALi M3606/M3603 with networking is a cost effective, single-chip solution for High Definition MPEG2, H.264 decoder applications. 

Latin America, with a population of nearly 600 million, is a significant market for ALi’s global strategy. Several countries are moving ahead with the analog television switch over and the MSOs are making significant investment in digital services. Showcasing products at ABTA signals ALi’s determination to further penetrate this region. ALi first entered Latin America in 2009 and now the company’s products are used daily by subscribers of pay-TV operators from more than 5 countries in this region. 

“According to Digital TV Research of London, pay-TV revenues in Latin America will be over $17 billion by 2016, and we expect Brazil to contribute the largest share,” said Tony Chang, vice president of the International Business Unit at ALi Corporation. “Technology is evolving non-stop. As most Latin American countries are experiencing a surge in digital television penetration, they are also rolling out the ISDB-T standard for Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT). ALi has a complete product portfolio that is suitable for standard and high-definition STBs and compatible with DVBS2/ISDB-T standards. Our proven history in delivering competitive digital STB solutions ensures we are extremely responsive in addressing the needs of Latin American viewers.” 

Despite a gloomy worldwide economy, Latin America has experienced strong economic growth, which translates to solid STB demand. The Latin American digital STB market is expected to grow more than 150% by 2015, and more than half will be using the ISDB-T standard that was widely adopted throughout Latin America, including in Brazil, Chile, Argentina, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Paraguay, Costa Rica and Venezuela. 

ABTA 2011 in Sao Paulo, Brazil is the leading trade show in Latin America for the cable and telecom industries, and 5 of ALi’s flagship STB chipsets for satellite, cable, and terrestrial TV will be showcased from August 9th to 11th, 2011, at Transamerica Expo Center, Booth #F6a. Many other ALi-based platforms will also be on display by international partners and at customers’ booths.
