Xilinx Zynq-7000 Family Wins Product of the Year Award at Electrons d’Or in Paris

PARIS, June 24, 2011 – Xilinx, Inc. (NASDAQ: XLNX) today announced that its Zynq™-7000 Extensible Processing Platform (EPP) achieved Product of the Year status at the French electronics industry’s annual Electrons d’Or awards, held on Thursday 16th June 2011 in Paris. Xilinx was celebrated in the Programmable Logic Category for achieving an industry first with its new family of devices that incorporate an ARM® dual-core Cortex™-A9 MPCore™ processing system with 28nm programmable logic.

Now in its 14th consecutive year, the Electrons d’Or awards are organised by France’s leading trade publication, ElectroniqueS magazine. The awards distinguish the 13 most innovative products of the year in their respective categories. The editorial team compiled a short list of products that have the biggest impact on the industry and have been the subject of articles in electronic journals and on the site www.ElectroniqueS.biz over the last twelve months. The winners were then selected and awarded their trophies by an independent panel of electronics industry experts.

The Xilinx Zynq-7000 EPP is a family of four silicon devices that combine a complete ARM CortexA9 MPCore processor-based system-on-chip (SoC) with integrated 28nm programmable logic. Each device is a processor-based system, capable of booting an OS from reset without needing to program the programmable logic. It enables system architects and embedded software developers to apply a combination of serial (using the ARM processor) and parallel (using programmable logic) processing to applications that require high levels of performance, while at the same time benefiting from higher integration as a way to reduce cost, power and size. The programmable logic also offers traditional processor-based system users a new level of flexibility and scalability not yet available to them when using alternative solutions.

“The standard of products was extremely high this year and we are delighted to announce Xilinx as a winner of a prestigious Electrons d’Or award,” said Francois Gauthier, Editor in Chief of ElectroniqueS. “What really made the Zynq-7000 Extensible Processing Platform stand out from other shortlisted products was its unique merging of silicon hardware to deliver a variety of benefits architected specifically for high-end embedded applications.”

“This is a fantastic accomplishment and one we are extremely proud of, especially as Xilinx is the only company to currently offer the reality of a processor tightly coupled with an FPGA on the same die,” said Lawrence Getman, Vice President of Processing Platforms. “The tight integration of the processing system with the programmable logic not only effectively reduces system bill of materials, power, and size, but serves as an ‘innovation engine’ to drive innovative applications and significantly expand the markets being served by traditional FPGA approaches to embedded systems.”

Zynq-7000 EPP, the industry’s first extensible processing platform family, is designed for embedded systems that require high-levels of processing performance in a flexible and scalable solution. Target markets include automotive driver assistance, intelligent video surveillance, industrial automation, aerospace and defense, broadcast and next-generation wireless.
