Making teleportation more energy-efficient

An international team of researchers has achieved an important theoretical result by finding that quantum teleportation – the process of transporting quantum information at the speed of light, which could in theory be used to teleport macroscopic objects and, one day, even humans – can be achieved in a much more energy-efficient way than was previously thought.

Hive retro computer

The crew from the German HIVE Project are developing a retro style DIY computer with Parallax Propeller chips. The design includes three Propeller chips (containing a total of 24 RISC processors), VGA graphics, video output, stereo sound, about 1 MB of RAM, SD Card reader, LAN, mouse and keyboard. The design uses all DIP and through hole components.

MSU’s robofish glides for miles, monitoring pollutants

A new species of robot fish has been spotted in the Kalamazoo River in the state of Michigan, where more than a million gallons of oil spilled in July 2010. Developed primarily by Xiaobo Tan, an associate professor at Michigan State University (MSU), the robot’s sensors detected crude oil at various sites along the river.

TSA to remove ‘nude’ body scanners from American airports

Good news for those who felt Transportation Security Administration officers were getting to know them a little too well. The TSA will soon remove all body scanners that show nearly nude images of people trying to board flights.
