In my Fish Fry this week, I chat with FPGA Journal Editor Kevin Morris about the biggest and baddest high-tech news of 2010, where he thinks the industry is heading and where new FPGA start-ups fit in the whole equation. Also this week, I give an update on Texas Instruments Wireless Watch Development Tool nerdy giveaway.

Join me for this week’s news wrap-up with my spin on the high-tech news of the week…

If you like the idea of this new series, be sure to drop a comment in the box below. I appreciate all of your comments so far, and we will be working to enhance the Fish Fry each week – as long as you’re watching.

Use Configurable Digital IO To Give Your Industrial Controller the Edge

Sponsored by Maxim Integrated

As factories get bigger, centralized industrial process control has become difficult to manage. While there have been attempts to simplify the task, it remains unwieldy. In this design solution, we briefly review the centralized approach before looking at what potential changes edge computing will bring to the factory floor. We also show a digital IO IC that allows for smaller, more adaptable programmable logic controllers (PLCs) more suited to this developing architecture.

Introducing Google Coral

Sponsored by Mouser Electronics and Google

AI inference at the edge is exploding right now. Numerous designs that can’t use cloud processing for AI tasks need high-performance, low-power AI acceleration right in their embedded designs. Wouldn’t it be cool if those designs could have their own little Google TPU? In this episode of Chalk Talk, Amelia Dalton chats with James McKurkin of Google about the Google Coral edge TPU.
