Lyrtech and Enigma Interconnect conclude manufacturing agreement on recent Lyrtech CA$ 28 million OEM contract

Quebec City, Canada (August 18, 2010). Lyrtech Inc. (Lyrtech) (TSX-V: LTK), a worldwide leader in digital signal processing technologies and a Texas Instruments Elite Design House, is proud to announce that it has concluded a manufacturing agreement with Enigma Interconnect, regarding its recent CA$ 28 million OEM contract that involves designing, developing and delivering intelligent motion detection modules based on existing Lyrtech intelligent optical sensing (IOS) technology. Under this agreement, Enigma will mass produce the device developed by Lyrtech.

The agreement will ensure a steady flow of work at the fabrication, assembly and testing installations of Enigma Interconnect in Pointe-Claire, St-Laurent and Vancouver. Projected to last two years, the device will be assembled and tested in the Montreal (QC) area and will use printed circuit boards supplied by Enigma Interconnect’s plant in Vancouver.

“This agreement strengthens the solid relationship between Enigma Interconnect and Lyrtech, and is based on a business model that seeks to provide customers with an integrated solution that ranges from design, printed circuit boards manufacturing, electronics assembly to final test,” said Avraham Elarar, president and chief executive officer at Enigma Interconnect.

“We are pleased with this manufacturing agreement, which will allow us to benefit from Enigma’s solid financial capabilities to efficiently deliver this very important OEM product. It also means that our rapidly expanding OEM product business activity can grow very quickly. This agreement allows us to look forward to closing additional business deals with our occupancy sensors and femtocell OEM products,” said Louis Bélanger, president and chief executive officer at Lyrtech.

IOS is a promising DSP-based technology set to replace older sensing technologies such as passive infrared and ultrasonic occupancy sensing, as IOS can detect presence even without motion. IOS is also capable of offering reliable people counts in predefined areas. In a world where energy efficiency and higher cost-effectiveness are major concerns, IOS is going to become pivotal in HVAC and lighting systems so they can become capable of automatically adjusting heat, airflow or light use. IOS technology also opens new horizons in the safety and security markets without compromising on privacy, as well as in marketing and room management, among others.

Acrosser Launches a New PCI/104+Solution-AR-B8020

There are many industrial applications only need 386 or 486 level CPU to execute basic industrial applications.  Nowadays those low cost processors has been phased out from the market, system integrators are forced to spend more cost on new platforms which are expensive and over requirements.  For example, the current X86 CPU clocks are all over 600MHz. and form factor sizes are bigger than 3.5”. They are either too expensive or too big for simple industrial applications.

Industrial application can also choose RISC platform beside X86 to decrease the platform costs. But, they need to spend more manpower and time to develop dedicated RISC operation system.  For small and middle size projects, it is very difficult to afford these extra investments and time costs.

Acrosser Technology Co. Ltd is recently announces it’s PC-104 CPU module AR-B8020 entry-level platform.   This PC-104 CPU board is X86 software structure with high cost performance ratio.  The followings are AR-B8020 brief introduction:

  • High reliability CPU (RDC R8610 supporting 133MHz)
  • Compatible with X86 S/W structure
  • 64MB onboard SDRAM memory
  • PC/104 and PCI-104 expansion slots for future expansions
  • Small PC-104 form factor (90mm * 96mm)
  • Fanless design for rugged environment
  • Storage — 128MB flash memory, 1 * FDD + 1 * IDE (or CF card adapter)
  • Networking — 1 * 10/100Mbps LAN
  • I/O — 2 * USB 2.0 + 3 * COM
  • Competitive prices and superior performances

AR-B8020 also supports Linux that is one of the most powerful and reliable O/S.  In order to save installation time and avoid any problems, Acrosser Technology Co. Ltd bundles the AR-B8020 with free Linux package. Customers only put this Linux package CD to finish all of the following Linux installation procedures!

  • Facilitating FreeDOS on your board.
  • Partitioning a primary disk on your board.
  • Formatting the primary disk on your board.

High Power Charging Inlets
All major truck and bus OEMs will be launching electric vehicle platforms within the next few years and in order to keep pace with on-highway and off-highway EV innovation, our charging inlets must also provide the voltage, current and charging requirements needed for these vehicles. In this episode of Chalk Talk, Amelia Dalton and Drew Reetz from TE Connectivity investigate charging inlet design considerations for the next generation of industrial and commercial transportation, the differences between AC only charging and fast charge and high power charging inlets, and the benefits that TE Connectivity’s ICT high power charging inlets bring to these kinds of designs.
